The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

Yeah it's been over a year since the orig. was offered but seeing two different warnings, one to the UAE (arab emerites or whatever) on the 5th giving them 10 days and this one a year later.

Things may be swinging into full gear. The Zawahri video also puts the risk factor way up eh?

I have long suspected that there has always been a rift in the Saudi royal family, with the erstwhile king just barely holding it together, if only by his continued blip on the heart monitor. On one side, I suspect, those who believe the U.S. is, if not spiritually equal, at least useful for income and defense purposes. On the other side, rabid Wahhabim, sending unmarked bills to Al Qaeda and just waiting for the day when they can take over the peninsula.

Here's a thought - how far-fetched is it to think that someday bin Ladin's goons may get their hands on some Saudi F-15's? I hope we put those remote self-destruct devices in a secure location on the jets.

Man tried to open plane door at 40,000 ft

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - A passenger sparked panic when he tried to open the door of a British Airways plane at 40,000 feet over the Atlantic and again while it was coming in to land, a court heard today.

On his first attempt, Mahamet Diakite, 24, "succeeded to the point that it was only the pressurisation of the cabin and wind speed which prevented the aircraft door opening", prosecutor John Hulme said. "He became involved in a struggle with another passenger."

And when the Frenchman tried again on the Chicago to London Boeing 777 flight, "the door was opened to the extent that wind was noticeably passing through the door seal," he said.

Mr Hulme told the jury at Isleworth Crown Court: "The facts of the case are any nervous passenger's nightmare."

He said Diakite boarded the seven-hour flight in Chicago and quickly "came to the attention of cabin crew because of his abnormal behaviour. He was playing with his cigarette lighter, flicking it alight and a burning smell was detected."

After his two attempts to open the doors, he was arrested on landing at Heathrow. Mr Hulme added: "His actions created a risk to the safety of the aircraft, its crew and passengers." (snip)

The USSR was hoping Japan would surrender before, but started an offensive in Manchuria hours BEFORE the second bomb was dropped. Our original date for the second bomb was the 11th, but Truman stepped it up in attempt to keep the soviets from getting too involved.
