The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNN) -- Two men tried to re-enter Canada from the United States early Saturday with handguns and ammunition strapped to their bodies, Canadian police said.

Ali Dirie, 22, and Yasin Mohamed, 23 -- both Canadians from the Toronto area -- face weapons-related charges and are in police custody in Niagara Falls, Ontario, according to a police statement. Ontario's Provincial Weapons Enforcement Team and the Niagara Regional Police Service are investigating.

Detective Sgt. Shawn Clarkson, of the Niagara Regional Police Service, would not say what led border officers to search the men.

The men's vehicle underwent a routine search at about 5:40 a.m. at Peace Bridge, which links Buffalo, New York, with Fort Erie, Ontario.

Smuggling U.S. guns into Canada, where gun restrictions are much tighter, has been a common problem."

Two arrested

Kolkata, Aug 14 (IANS) Two
people have been arrested
Sunday in connection with the
sale of coupons bearing the name
of Al Qaeda in some
Muslim-dominated areas of this
West Bengal capital over the past
few days.

City Police Commissioner Prasun
Mukherjee told IANS: "We have
arrested two persons from
Kolkata. We cannot disclose all
the details now."

A middle-aged Bangladeshi was
reportedly selling coupons to
raise funds for Al Qaeda in some
Muslim areas of Kolkata,
according to the state detective
department.

Reports said the man, who
looked like a fakir and was
believed to be about 50 years
old, sold coupons of Rs.25 and
Rs.50 denominations under the
name of "Mujahiddin al Qaida
Pacific International - Dhaka,
Bangladesh" in Metiaburz and
other areas near the Kolkata port.

It was not known if the two
people arrested Sunday were
Bangladeshis. The coupons were
also distributed in some central
Kolkata neighbourhoods.

The coupons were in Urdu and
some booklets of Muslim jehadi
organisations were reportedly
distributed along with them.

One of the groups mentioned in
the booklets was
"Harkat-ul-Jihad-Islami", which
is believed to be an arm of a
Pakistani terrorist organisation
that works with Al Qaeda.

The police found that several
people were engaged in selling
the coupons.

in a hospital, West Nile Virus.....they are spraying in the

Spraying Continues As 'Epidemic' Is Announced

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After three days of spraying in northern Sacramento County, Vector Control is shifting its focus to the southern area.

Sacramento Health Officer Dr. Glennah Trochet announced Thursday that there are now 33 West Nile virus cases in the county, 12 of which are potentially life-threatening.


"Yes, it is an epidemic," Trochet said.


Vector Control officials said that there are some sites in the southern part of the county that have "extremely high mosquito-infection rates." But they added they believe the aerial insecticide spraying over the past few days has been effective in the fight against the mosquito population.
