The Threat Matrix
The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.
"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."
We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research. |

This is page 4, and it said "Quaran burned, jihadii's are you going to take this?" Or something close to that.

Notice to Travelers about Avian Influenza A (H5N1); 11 Aug 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------- (Released on 16 Mar 2005; and previously updated on 14 Apr, 20 Jun and 29 Jul 2005) According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report on 5 Aug 2005, the Ministry of Health in Viet Nam has reported an additional 3 human cases of avian influenza A (H5N1) virus infection: one in the northern province of Ha Tay, one in the southern province of Tra Vinh, and one in Ho Chi Minh City, also in the south. The patients from Tra Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City died. These newly confirmed cases in Viet Nam bring the total reported there since mid- December 2004 to 63 cases, 20 of which have been fatal. _____________________________________________________________ During December 2003 to August 5, 2005, a total of 112 human cases of avian influenza A (H5N1) were reported in Viet Nam (90), Thailand (17), Cambodia (4) and Indonesia (1), resulting in 57 deaths. For more information about avian influenza A (H5N1) infections in humans, visit: - the WHO website - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website [and the ProMED-mail web-site - Mod.JW]. _____________________________________________________________ Most cases of H5N1 infection in humans are thought to have occurred from direct contact with infected poultry. Therefore, care should be taken to avoid contact, when feasible, with live, well-appearing, sick, or dead poultry and any surfaces that may have been contaminated by poultry or their feces or secretions. Transmission of H5N1 viruses to 2 persons through consumption of uncooked duck blood may also have occurred in Vietnam in 2005. Therefore, consumption of uncooked poultry or poultry products, including blood, should be avoided. To date, there has been no evidence of sustained person-to-person spread of influenza A (H5N1) virus. _____________________________________________________________ To reduce the risk of infection, Americans [and others] visiting areas where outbreaks of H5N1 infection among poultry or human cases of H5N1 infection have been reported should observe the following measures to help avoid illness. _____________________________________________________________ Before any international travel ------------------------------- (1) Always educate yourself and others who may be traveling with you about any disease risks in areas you plan to visit (for information about H5N1, see this web page for more information: ). _____________________________________________________________ (2) Be sure your vaccinations are up to date and see your doctor or health- care provider, ideally 4 to 6 weeks before travel, to get any additional vaccinations, medications, or information you may need. CDC's health recommendations for international travel to Southeast Asia are provided on CDC's Travelers' Health website: . _____________________________________________________________ (3) Assemble a travel health kit containing basic first aid and medical supplies. Be sure to include a thermometer and alcohol-based hand rub for hand hygiene. See this page for other suggested items: . _____________________________________________________________ (4) Before you leave, find out how and where to get medical care in the country where you are traveling. _____________________________________________________________ (5) Check your health insurance plan or get additional insurance that covers medical evacuation in case you become sick. Information about medical evacuation services is provided on the U.S. Department of State Web page titled Medical Information for Americans Traveling Abroad, at . _____________________________________________________________ During Travel ------------- (1) Avoid all direct contact with poultry, including touching well-appearing, sick, or dead chickens and ducks. Avoid places, such as poultry farms and bird markets, where live poultry are raised or kept, and avoid handling surfaces contaminated with poultry feces or secretions. _____________________________________________________________ (2) As with other infectious illnesses, one of the most important preventive practices is careful and frequent hand-washing. Cleaning your hands often, using soap and water (or waterless alcohol-based hand rubs when soap is not available and hands are not visibly soiled), removes potentially infectious material from your skin and helps prevent disease transmission. _____________________________________________________________ (3) Hand-washing is especially important when preparing raw poultry for cooking (including during cooking classes). _____________________________________________________________ (4) Influenza viruses are destroyed by heat; therefore, as a precaution, all foods from poultry, including eggs and poultry blood, should be thoroughly cooked. See International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) for guidelines about food safety and H5N1 at _____________________________________________________________ (5) If you become sick with symptoms such as a fever, difficulty breathing, or cough or with any illness that requires prompt medical attention, a U.S. consular officer can assist you in locating medical services and informing your family or friends. See this page for more information about what to do if you become ill while abroad: . It is advisable that you defer travel until you are free of symptoms unless your travel is health-related. _____________________________________________________________ After your return ----------------- (1) Monitor your health for 10 days. (2) If you become ill with fever and develop a cough or difficulty breathing, or if you develop any illness during this 10-day period, consult a health-care provider. _____________________________________________________________ Before you visit a health-care setting, tell the provider the following: 1) your symptoms 2) where you traveled and 3) if you have had direct poultry contact or contact with a known or suspected human case of influenza A (H5N1) in an H5N1-affected country . This way he or she can be aware you have traveled to an area reporting avian influenza. _____________________________________________________________ For more information about H5N1 infections in humans, visit the World Health Organization (WHO) website and the CDC Avian Influenza site, . _____________________________________________________________ For more information about CDC's health recommendations for travel to Asia, see _________________________________________and . _____________________________________________________________ -- ProMED-mail [This advice is specifically directed to US citizens, but it is generally applicable for travellers to East Asia from all countries. Date: Fri, 12 Aug 2005 From: ProMED-mail Source: TodayOnline.com [edited] _____________________________________________________________ Bloody diarrhea epidemic kills 23 in DR Congo ------------------------------------------------ The death toll in an epidemic of bloody diarrhea in the central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 23, a health official said. _____________________________________________________________ Regional medical inspector Dr Andre Kasogo Mulamba said that 23 people have died, up from 22 on 8 Aug 2005, while the number of cases of the mystery illness has more than doubled to 997 people. The epidemic broke out on 29 Jul 2005 at Kabongola, about 240 km (144 miles) from Kindu, the main city of the central Maniema province. _____________________________________________________________ All those who died from the disease worked at a diamond mine near Kabongola, which employs many of the town's 6000 inhabitants. _____________________________________________________________ The bloody diarrhea is accompanied by fever, pains in the throat, vomiting, and later difficulty in breathing, said Kasogo, who arrived in the region on Thu, 11 Aug 2005. _____________________________________________________________ "We have come to track the evolution of the epidemic and provide medicines to the local medical authorities," Kasogo said. _____________________________________________________________ Another medical team from the Belgian division of the international aid organization Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) have sent a team to the region. _____________________________________________________________ "Together we are going to evaluate the situation and take samples to identify the disease," he said. _____________________________________________________________ On 4 Aug 2005, anti-diarrheal drugs and water purification products were sent by the British aid organization Merlin from Kinshasa to Kabongola. _____________________________________________________________ -- ProMED-mail [Shigellosis and amoebiasis are the major epidemic causes of bloody diarrhea in the developing world. (I would say this is how a terrorist works......granny) +++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 12 Aug 2005 From: ProMED-mail Source: KATU.com [edited] _____________________________________________________________ Nearly 300 sickened at spiritual retreat ---------------------------------------- An outbreak of shigellosis sickened almost 300 people who attended a spiritual retreat in southwest Oregon. 9 people were briefly hospitalized with the intestinal illness, which causes diarrhea, vomiting, fever and abdominal cramps. Symptoms generally disappear in 3 to 5 days even without medical treatment. _____________________________________________________________ The 280 people who got sick were among some 1400 people from the USA and 22 countries who were at the center 20 miles northwest of Roseburg between 22 Jul and 7 Aug 2005. The retreat, sponsored by the Know Thyself as Soul Foundation International, was for practitioners of Sant Mat, which espouses meditation as a means of spiritual awakening. _____________________________________________________________ The source of the outbreak has not been pinpointed, but it was likely passed from an infected person through water or food at the center, said William E. Keene, senior epidemiologist with the Oregon Department of Human Services. Retreat organizers notified Douglas County health officials of the illnesses 27 Jul 2005. When state health officials arrived a day later, they entered a scene of misery for many of the participants. _____________________________________________________________ Dozens of people were ill with fever, vomiting and diarrhea, he said, and were being cared for by other retreat participants. "A lot of these people didn't have a home to go to," he said. "Many had come from around the world. They couldn't just pack up and go home, because they had plane reservations." _____________________________________________________________ Retreat participants lived in tents at the center and had access to portable toilets. Temperatures in the mid-90s added to their discomfort, Keene said. _____________________________________________________________ -- ProMED-mail [This posting adds the information that participants in the retreat were from all over the USA and the world. Secondary cases in contacts at the retreat or after the participants return home may occur, since the disease has a very low infectious dose (less than 50 bacilli) and easily transmits from person to person. - Mod.LL]

One day before D-Day; Israel girds for civil strife! (Israel Insider)
HOLY CITY IN HEAT
Saturday evening passed with no major incidents, despite the presence
of
thousands of Jewish worshippers and threats by Moslems to "defend the
mosques" on the Temple Mount. But groups of dozens of demonstrators
fanned out in Jerusalem and also in Tel Aviv to protest in front of the
homes of government ministers, a preview of coming attractions
tomorrow.
An anti-pullout Knesset member will lead an attempt to block off the
Temple Mount, and tens of thousands are expected to surround,
Kiev-style, the Prime Minister's office and prevent "business as
usual."
Stay tuned, the forecast for Sunday is HOT.
Those who kneel before G-d can stand before anyone! Pray for the safety
of BneiYisrael and Eretz Yisrael and for G-d's Shalom for Yerushalayim

Hi Davey! Temps are down where we live, how's the heat there?
= = = = = = =
We have had a nice summer. Only a few days of humid 90's. Then there is always August, usually the hottest for us.
We heard the katydids (?sp) about a week and a half ago, so 30 days till first frost.

It was great, Cindy. We had a big thunderstorm this afternoon, along with some much-needed rain. After it cleared away there was a fresh breeze out of the south, so I decided there was no better time to go.
We left the dock just before 7:00 and sailed until the sun sank behind some clouds that were low on the horizon, then we came in and sat on the boat and chatted with friends for hours, just like old times.
I'm ready to turn in now, but I'll be back tomorrow, off and on.

This is the second page of the article, all of it is worth reading, it appears that the threats to India were in 2003 and have now started again.
http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20050813&fname=raman&sid=1&pn=2
Al Qaeda And India
(2 of 2)
The messages also warned Pakistani army
officers and soldiers that Musharraf would
"hand you over to the Hindus and flee to
enjoy his secret (bank) accounts" if India
attacked their country. Nor would
Washington reward Musharraf for his
services.
These messages were followed by two
attempts to assassinate Musharraf
mounted by the jihadi terrorist elements
with the complicity of some Pakistani Army
and Air Force officers belonging to the
Hizbut Tehrir at Rawalpindi in
December,2003.
Since then, there has been no other
attempt directed at him and the Al Qaeda's
messages too have been free of any
criticism of Pakistan in general and
Musharraf in particular. Reports from
well-informed sources in Balochistan say
that Musharraf has made a deal with the Al
Qaeda, the Taliban and the HEI, under
which he has promised not to interfere with
their activities from their sanctuaries in
Pakistani territory in return for their
refraining from any terrorist attacks against
him or in Pakistani territory. For the last
about 10 months, there has been no major
terrorist attack, barring the periodic
anti-Shia strikes, in Pakistani territory
attributable to these organisations.
The first references to India in the
messages of the Al Qaeda and its leaders
started appearing after the visit of Prime
Minister Aeriel Sharon of Israel to India in
2003, but these messages did not refer to
the so-called Kashmir issue. Against this
background, it is significant that a recent
message attributed to the Al Qaeda and its
associates in Afghanistan refers to
Kashmir.
On August 9, 2005, the Al Arabiya TV
channel showed a video recording of what
was described as the recent successful
operations of the Al Qaeda and the Taliban
against the US troops in Afghanistan. A
report on the video circulated by the
Associated Press says as follows:
"A purported al-Qaida-made video shows
militants in Afghanistan--including
Europeans, Arabs and others--preparing to
attack U.S. troops and showing off what
they said was a U.S. military laptop. The
video features interviews with a masked
man yelling "As you bomb us, you will be
bombed!" and shows a group of men
packing explosives into bombs. The
program includes interviews with bearded
fighters claiming they are avenging the
killing of Muslims by the U.S., Britain,
Israel and India. "If this is terrorism and
fundamentalism, then OK, we are terrorists
and fundamentalists," a Pakistani man who
identifies himself as Bilal says in Urdu. The
tapes feature a diatribe by a British or
Australian-accented man wearing a black
robe, AK-47 and military-style vest, who
warns Westerners of "the lies of Blair and
Bush." Yet another scene pans across a
cache of captured U.S. gear, including a
laptop, an M-16, military radios, a global
positioning satellite display and the
Department of Defense ID card of slain
Navy SEAL Danny Phillip Dietz Jr. Dietz,
25, of Littleton, Colo., was killed June 28
after his four-man reconnaissance team
came under attack in Kunar province. The
Chinook helicopter was downed and the 16
troops killed as the craft was on its way to
aid Dietz, killing all aboard. An insurgent is
shown going through the laptop's hard
drive, zooming in on a U.S. military
document marked "For Official Use Only"
and a map of Kabul marked with the
locations of the U.S. and British embassies.
The film is subtitled in Arabic, but carries
interviews in English, French, Pashto and
Urdu, as well as Arabic spoken with
Yemeni, Saudi and Iraqi accents."
Other news agencies have quoted the
British or Australian accented man
appearing in the video as saying: "We will
not let you kill our families in Palestine,
Afghanistan, Kashmir, the Balkans,
Indonesia , the Caucusus and elsewhere."
While the authenticity of this video has not
yet been established by the Western and
Australian intelligence agencies, it does not
appear to be a doctored one. It is not clear
whether this video was recorded before the
recent visit of our Prime Minister
Dr.Manmohan Singh to the US or after the
visit. The two countries' determination to
co-operate against terrorism was
highlighted during the visit.
In the past, there had been no confirmed
instance of Indian Muslims from outside
J&K clandestinely going to Pakistan for
studying in the madrasas there. After the
recent decision of Musharraf to expel
foreign students studying in the Pakistani
madrasas, which is yet to be implemented,
there has been a number of reports in the
Pakistani media about the foreign students
in the Pakistani madrasas. These reports
indicate the presence of at least one Indian
Muslim from outside J&K studying in a
Karachi madrasa. He is reportedly from
Mumbai and had gone to Karachi from
Kathmandu. There have also been reports
of the presence of some Nepali Muslims
(number not known) in the Pakistani
madrasas.
