p.s. I'm a Vietnam vet
I, myself, am a Commissioned Officer in the US Air Force Reserve. Paul Hackett is a disgrace to the US Armed Forces.
Does he have to be active duty?
The worst kind of traitor.
I don't know if he did anything to disgrace his uniform or not, but I dont think criticizing the President or other politicians would fit that category.
Maybe he was the typical wobbly two-faced Democrat, but
I think it is a good thing for veterans to run for office.
Also, I'd hate for this kind of statement to be made against a Republican vet who inevitably will be criticizing the flawed foreign policies of the Democrats.
Send the Traitor to Abhu Ghraib Penitentiary, for all the "good" he's done...
I'm surprised that Hackett did not get at least 2 purple hearts for being a desk jockey.
What's the charge when applied to an entire political party?
He doesn't have to be active duty but there is some question about whether if in reserves they must be "on duty". I was always told that a soldier must abide by a military standard even when not at drill.
I think that constitutes disrespect for his commander in chief.
Guess we ought to modify the First Amendment to eliminate the right of free speech for former military officers. Right?
Oh come on this is the worst, he ran (like any polictian used tools he thought would get him votes) and lost.
Can you imagine the bad press that would follow if he were charged?
Two Marines who spoke out about Slick Willie, Major Shane Sellers USMC and Major Daniel Rabil USMCR, effectively saw their careers ended.
No offense, but more than a few Officers (Army & USAF iirc) were busted in rank and had to resign for making disparaging comments about Billy Jeff while he was POTUS. This is the same thing.
And like it or not, but our military is supposed remain NON Political and any criticism of their CINC is a punishable offense.
Murder....rape.....child abuse......treason......etc.
You just have to be a celebrity, a Democrat or a member of the MSM and you can get away with anything!
That's why liberals are so terrified of conservative judges.
They might actually one day have to face the law, rather than getting around it.
'By 1992 Paul had met and married Suzi, become a part of the Select Marine Corps Reserve and founded his own law firm, Hackett Law Offices.I too am a Vet and was in the Reserves; his violation of his oath by "... uses contemptuous words ... and still retaining his Commission in the Marine Reserve puts him directly into conflict with the UCMJ.
'Last year, Paul heard the call to service again. As his Marine Corps brothers fought a half world away, Paul could not sit in the comfort of his home and let others do the work he was prepared to do. After a serious discussion with his wife and children, Paul re-upped and joined his marines for a seven month tour with the 1st Marine Division and served as a Civil Affairs officer in Ramadi, took part in the Fallujah campaign and subsequent reconstruction.
'When Paul returned only a few weeks ago, he learned of Rob Portman's decision to vacate his congressional seat. Paul Hackett is continuing his service to his country by running for the United State Congress.'
Had he resigned his position prior to running, there would be no argument that he, or any Vet, can say what they will about the political leadership. "You take the King's Shilling; you live by the King's Rules." Always has been; always should be.
"...were busted in rank and had to resign for making disparaging comments about Billy Jeff while he was POTUS. This is the same thing."
I don't think any of these guys were running for political office at the time and since when do we need to be like bill? I believed that the whole point of the rights movement was to be the anti-bill / hilary / demo*rat.
