He also challenged those who have callously spoken out against Jason’s decision to keep his wife alive, to come to see the newborn baby.

I think it's wonderful that the baby has been born and is (apparently) healthy. I do have a problem with the fact that pretty much as soon as the baby was born, the plug was pulled on the mother's life support. Why? And as I've said on another thread, where were all the Terri Schiavo media hogs? Why is Susan Flores' life worth less of a fight than Terri Schiavo's?

Uh cause, wasn't she pronounced brain dead due to the severe cancer.

This woman was on life supports Terri Schiavo wasn't. They starved Terri to death and in this instance they removed life supports and death followed as a natural course.

There's a big difference between being brain dead and removed from life support, Torres, and having one's feeding tube removed and being slowly starved to death, Schiavo.

Big difference between "brain-damaged" and "brain-dead".

This woman died right after support was stopped. She was brain-dead.

Terri Schiavo struggled for 2 weeks not to die, while being dehydrated. She was brain-damaged. Like a mentally-retarded child.

Her entire body was riddles with cancer, which was why they performed the c-section 13 weeks early.

It was now or never.

Susan Torres' condition was radically different from Terri Schiavo's. Terri Schiavo just needed "ordinary care" --- what we owe EVERYONE who is dependent or medically disabled --- in order to go on living. (Ordinary care is usually defined as the patient's right to be kept fed and hydrated, as pain-free as possible, clothed, clean, and comfortable.)

Terri was not dying, and all of her bodily systems were functioning on their own, athough she was severely brain damaged. Cutting off food and water was quite simply murder by starvation.

By way of contrast, all of Susan Torres' organs and systems were failing as a result of her brain cancer. Unlike Terri, most of Susan's bodily functions had already shut down; and to keep her baby viable, medical technology had to supply or support respiration, heartbeat, kidney dialysis, even to the point of monitoring and regulating the composition of the baby's amniotic fluid.

If all she needed was a feeding tube, removing it would be murder. But---though this sounds distressing, here it is --- once the baby was born, there was no moral obligation to continue ventilating a corpse.

Just so you know, Terri's supporters such as myself were following the Torres' situation. Further, I don't live in the Torres' community and was not personally involved with the Torres' family waiting for the sweet child's birth and the mom's sad passing. What can I say? I live in Florida, the starvation state instead.

At Hospice Woodside, I witnessed lots of people, some who were camera shy but they found the courage to beg for someone to save Terri's life. Some were on radio, some were on local, national cable and alphabet broadcasts. But, the govt abandoned Terri anyway. That's the pathetic part.

The "media hogs" spent Easter Sunday at the hospice death camp instead of with their families. Terri still had a fighting chance that Easter Sunday. I saw so many people sacrifice of themselves and that's what decent folks should do.

I'm sure there are freepers from the Torres' hometown who were involved in some way. That's why Free Republic is so great. Freepers are all over the place and the MSM just isn't.

Every life is important and I'm against embryonic stem cell research too.

The cases are totally different. Susan Torres was clearly brain dead; there was nothing to be done for her. Her husband knew she was gone, but made the decision to try to save their baby. They kept Susan on life support long enough to give the baby a fighting chance.

Terri Schiavo was clearly alive, her existence was just inconvenient for her husband. That's why people were so horrified at the fact that this clearly alive, though brain damaged, woman was starved to death.
