Dean: GOP Will Try to Scapegoat Immigrants
Yahoo news/Associated Press ^ | 8-6-05 | LYNN BREZOSKY

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean argued on Friday that Republicans will try to make immigrants the "scapegoats" in the next election.

At a rally, Dean garnered the loudest applause when he said Republicans would make immigration a pivotal issue during upcoming elections, as they did gay marriage and affirmative action in previous elections.

"Do you know who the scapegoats are going to be? Immigrants," he said. "In Colorado, the chairman of the Republican Party endorsed Tom Tancredo for re-election. That is morally reprehensible. The governor of California, a supposed moderate Republican, invited the Minutemen to visit California. We do not need vigilante justice."

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., has drawn the ire of Hispanic groups in calling for tougher immigration enforcement and a proposal to tax some of the money immigrants send home. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in a radio interview in April, said the civilian border patrols known as the Minutemen "have done a terrific job."

Dean spoke at a rally on the eve of the Democratic National Committee's Hispanic Summit in San Antonio. Edinburg is located just a few miles north of the Mexican border and is more than 80 percent Mexican-American.

Dean also criticized President Bush, contending that the president rebuffed Mexican President Vicente Fox because of divisions over the Iraq war.

"A strong Mexico means a strong America, and our ties must not be based on the petulance of the president of the United States," Dean said.

Hollis Rutledge, chairman of the Hidalgo County Republican Party, said Dean's visit illustrates the inroads Republicans have made with Hispanic voters.

"One day of Republican-bashing won't make up for years of taking Hispanics for granted, and it cannot hide the fact that the Republican Party best represents the views and values of Hispanic Texans," Rutledge said.

I put the blame on the rino's and the dems.

A clear majority of republicans in the senate voted against amnesty in the ag bill. The dems all voted for amnesty in the ag bill which would have given farm workers amnesty.

A clear majority of republicans voted for more border agents and more detainee beds. Dems voted against it and picked up some rino's to defeat the bill.

I disagree with equating the parties on this issue most republicans in the house and senate vote against illegals while dems vote for illegals.

The problems are the rino's and the dems.

Wll I guess skapegoating the actual law breakers themselves, would be preferable to skapegoating those who out what they are doing for what it is.

Unfortunately we have leftists on this forum, in fact on this very thread who think the U.S. Constitution is little more than toilet paper, and the citizens of this nation have less rights than the citizens of other nations.

It is very thoughtful of people to out themselves so we know who they are. (not you, BTW)

Hillary votes for illegals and talks another way it is all part of her triangulation.

Hillary voted against more border agents.

Hillary voted against more detainee beds.

Hillary voted for amnesty for illegal farm workers in the ag bill.

Hillary is for in state tuition for illegals.

Hillary railed against the real id act saying don't blame illegals it is not their fault they want to come here.

Hillary is for affirmative action for illegals.

Hillary is for U.S taxpayer money to pay for illegals going to college.

Hillary through the media is allowed to vote like a liberal socialist then she is allowed to talk a different way and somehow she is a centrist.

In Hillary's world of triangulation only pay attention to how she votes not what comes out of the witch's mouth.

I understand your disagreement, but they are not standing up and fighting -- just voting passively. This issue is just too big to not exercise responsibility and FIX IT. There should be LOUD OUTRAGE on the floor of the Congress and real action committees on a grand scale at the state level -- which is sad because the President does have the ultimate responsiblility TO PROTECT OUR SOVERIGN BORDERS which he refuses to do.

Nothing wrong with immigrants....it's the illegal "immigrants" that are a load on the taxpayers.

As long as Dean keeps this up, and the Republicans formulate a solid, workable plan to stem illegal immigration, we're all set for 2008. (Big IF, but certainly doable.)

As usual, Dean just doesn't get it; fortunately, the Dems are too controlled by rage and personal hated for Bush to want to reel him in.

"If anything the Republican Party will continue to recognize the tremendous contributions immigrants have made to our economy and culture."

Current (past 20-25 years or so) immigrant flow are nothing more than a drain on our economy, thieves of American jobs, and bearer of un-American cultures.

you gotta be nuts to say what you said above, unless you're serving your own self-interests, and hence unamerican.

Delay said he wanted illegals rounded up and put in tents to me that is outrage. Delay can't help it if the votes aren't there for real reform because of the dems and the rino's.

There are plenty of republicans outraged about it but the rino's make everyone look bad.

How is the screamer doing? I haven't seen him on the boob tube in what seems an eternity, not that I can't find other things to amuse me.

For instance this week we celebrate the successful A-bomb drops on Japan 60 years ago.

Here's to the Enola Gay and the Bockscar, their crews and the entire effort of our armed forces in destroying that "evil empire".

We salute you!

"Economy: No scapegoat needed; it's booming, thank you"

Unless you are one of the legions of tradesmen put out of work by illegals.

"War On Terror: No scapegoat needed, no attacks, thank you"

There is no WOT. Not with unsecured borders. Go sell your delusions somewhere else.

"War in Iraq: No scapegoat needed, we're progressing toward democracy faster that ever imagined , thank you"

Let's see... IED attacks up 50% in the last 3 months...failure to secure the Iraqi borders have been pitiful. GWB murmuring about troop pullouts....... Get the popcorn and sit back and watch the full-on Civil War erupt.

Crime: No scapegoat needed; it's down nationwide the lowest it's been in decades, thank you

Crime by illegals is at an all time high.

"Health: No scapegoat needed; Americans have never had better access to medical care, thank you"

If you can afford it. Illegals are threatening the very existence of hospitals in border states. Do a search here on FR.

"Unemployment: No scapegoat needed, it's lower than the average for the last three decades and as low as it can safely go without causing inflation, thank you"

Unless you've been recently displaced by an illegal.

Go sell nonsense somewhere else please.

----

Too many Americans are being brainwashed by the left and the enemy of America. The left has forced, through brainwashing, the unsuspecting middle-of-the-road American to say that the current crop of legal immigrants is ok, but they must come through legal means. Nothing could farther from the truth: current crop of illegal immigration is bad and must all be deported to their countries; legal immigration of the current crop is even worse, as it would make it possible for the laws to be changed and allow the illegal aliens to come in legally. Legal immigration is a much worse problem than illegal immigration. Where once our legal immigrants came mostly from Europe, today's they come from countries other than Europe. European were the ones that made America great, and current non-European immigrants are the one that will turn our country into another third or fourth world country.

I cant believe how naive American citizens have been brainwashed into saying that it is ok for this non-European immigrants to come in, as long as they come in legally. We might as well open wide our borders and let anyone who wants to come in come in.

No Howard. Republicans will hopefully make ILLEGAL immigration and border security an ISSUE in the next election and defeat your socialist candidates in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania ......

Actually, I think Dean meant exactly what he said. He is lumping legals in with illegals to try to say that Republicans are against all immigrants thereby painting them with the racist brush. And, it appears to be working.
