CARLSBAD A town hall discussion on illegal immigration scheduled for next week will not be held on the campus of Carlsbad High School as planned.
School officials said the event posed a potential risk of damage to the facility and could jeopardize members of the audience.
Organizers said the event will take place next week at an unspecified venue.
"We're in a holding pattern," said Wade Teasdale, an aide to Republican state Sen. Bill Morrow. "We're looking for another location right now."
Morrow is sponsoring the town forum called "The Illegal Immigration Crisis: A Frank Discussion." It is to examine how illegal immigration impacts health care, homeland security, education, the economy and the environment. The forum has been endorsed by the Republican Women Federated Board.
Speakers are to include U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration; James W. Gilchrist of Aliso Viejo, founder of the MinuteMan Project; Los Angeles medical attorney and author Madeleine Cosman, who writes about the health costs of illegal immigration; and Pete Nuñez, former U.S. Attorney in San Diego, who has favored reducing immigration levels. Roger Hedgecock, a conservative radio talk-show host and former San Diego mayor, will serve as moderator.
Morrow's staff thought that by now they would be working on final details of the event scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m., but one week before the discussion was to take place inside the remodeled Carlsbad Community Cultural Arts Center on the campus of Carlsbad High School, Superintendent John A. Roach denied use of the theater.
He cited recent emotional outbursts that turned into altercations at demonstrations and counter-demonstrations regarding illegal immigration.

Please correct typo in heading "California"
thanks!
Have groups like MALDEF, LULAC, and National Council of La Raza ever been referred to as outspoken proponents of illegal immigration?
(That was definitely a rhetorical question.)

There is an assumption made here that is simply ABSURD. If it were true then ANY forum shouldn't be allowed to take place. ABSURD.
Schools officials have NO backbone whatsoever. Sad, sad, sad. They are teaching our children. Also sad, sad, sad.
yep, a picture of a couple of reeeeeel class acts! LOL
Oh, we just need to "take out the trash!"
And if we can get some representatives replaced in Sacramento and DC and elect a governor like Tom McClintock; this whole mess can be resolved. It won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay and do all I can to save the state and resolve the problems. GWB needs to "step up to the plate" too! The illegal alien issue has gotten dramatically worse since he's been in office.
And don't think for a second that you don't have the same problems escalating wherever you live in America.
Semper Fi,
Kelly
I did the same thing and will forever be thankful that I did. I recently went back to the cesspool, and you're right, it's worse than ever. People asked me why I had I moved away. So many Californians think that they are living in Paradise.....unbelievable!
I don't get what the "Absurd assumption" is.
It looks to me that the school expects that some of those attending would riot if unpleasant issues were honestly discussed. In the past we've seen similar attempts to suppress conservative speech. David Horowitz and Ann Coulter come to mind.
I think the officials know quite well the type of people they are dealing with, and are simply taking the expedient approach of suppressing the speech themselves, and avoiding the riot. What surprises me is that they openly stated as much, rather than trying to fabricate some excuse.
(Sorry, I don't know how to attach the obligatory Ann Coulter pictures, so if you are offended fix it yourself or shut up!)
It's a combination of both. Things are changing at a faster rate. You get used to the cultural clutter but leaving (even for just a short vacation) can really open your eyes to all the crap you are living around.
My advice to anyone still in california is to take a serious look around and assess what your life will be like in ten more years.
It won't be any better here in ten years, that's for sure.

Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
Be Ever Vigilant!
Minutemen Patriots ~ Bump!
Another way of saying that illegal immigrants and their supporters are irrational and prone to violence.
Please correct typo in heading "California" Mexifornistan thanks! There ya go, is that better?
I was born an raised in LA. I guess I feel leaving would be abandoning it, giving in to La Raza. It's coming to where you are now...you know it is unless we stop it here.
Word was out that gangs were to be targeting this event, so the cancellatin is a resut of political coercion.
Just aS a reminder the word ter+ror+ism is defined as a noun: systematic covert warfare to produce terror for political coercion.
In other pats of the world organized crime and thugs are called terrorists, we allocate for our militaries to try and stop them and politicians and media endlessly debate and discuss this issue.
But when these things happen on our own soil, we just are in denial, as it being a law enforcement issue.
