HARTFORD, Conn. -- Holding signs that read "Hate has no religion" and waving U.S. flags, about 150 Pakistani and other Muslim Americans rallied at the state Capitol Friday to denounce terrorism.
They voiced concern that all Muslims may become unfairly stereotyped as terrorists as violence around the world continues. They also proclaimed their love for the United States and denounced those who have attempted to "hijack" their religion.
"Today we all come together to make a statement," said Saud Anwar of South Windsor, president of the Connecticut chapter of the Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee. "Terrorists are our enemies as much as they are anyone else's."
Some at the rally said they're concerned that the majority of Muslims have been too silent on the issue of terrorism. Iman Qasim Sharief, of the Mohammed Islamic Center in Hartford, said it is time for Muslims to raise their voices and denounce terror.
"We are partners in this America," he said.
"The Muslim mother has the same concerns about her children as the Christian mother, as the Jewish mother," Sharief added.
Sohaid Sultan, the chaplan at Trinity College in Hartford, said there must be a "sacred struggle" to speak the truth about the Muslim religion and make people understand it is about peace, not hate.

Finally.
Good for him. And I like the name -- ANWR!
There always seems to be this other motive. For once, quit this selfish concern and just be against terrorism, please.
150....small numbers but very welcome, nevertheless.
Things are heating up. Now lets see if they are willing to report some terrorist candidates to the FBI. It may just end up coming to past, as they start to get scared their cozy lives in the States could come to a end.

I've got news for you skippy. Most of us DO think Islam is a Terrorist organization.
If it's not so, then it's real simple. Start finding those in your midst who ARE and bring them bloody, beaten and broken to your local police station.
Dropping a few off beheaded on the sidewalk wouldn't hurt my feelings either.

liars like this are at least as much of a problem as the so-called "extremists", and the so-called "moderates" that allegedly contribute to jihad through their silence. Islam is not compatible with Western citizenship, period! (citizenship the VERB, not a western passport)
A Muslim anti-terrorism rally in NJ about 18 months ago drew about a dozen people. There were more speakers at the rally than ralliers.
150 is aok in my book. They should keep it up, and we should encourage it any way we can.
I have to be skeptical of these new Islamic Anti-terrorist demonstrations. Where have they been for the last 4 years? Where were they when the Khobar Tower was blown up? Where were they when the USS Cole suddenly found a big hole in its side? Where were they when the bomb went off in the parking garage of the WTC? Where have they been while innocent Israeli women and children have been massacred?
I think there's some ulterior motive behind their "protests".
CT ping...
I do not believe it has any credibility or validity.
If it is sincere then it is done by useful idiots who have no connection to the islamic leadership.
In order for islam to be peaceful they have to reject whole sections, if not the entire, Quran.
I can't argue with that. It is refreshing to hear a condemantion that isn't the CAIR version of a condemnation...."We condemn this act, but..."
Let's see, how does the script go for a typical Al Jazeera article.....something like.....
"Of course we support these Muslims in their protest against terrorism, but they must understand that it is the results that matter. If Muslims truly are against terrorism, then they must strive to understand the Western World and why it must avenge the blood of 1000's of martyrs. Maybe if they burnt their mosques to the ground THEN we could see this as a positive step, but until then, the Western World must necessarily remain skeptical"
"I think there's some ulterior motive behind their "protests"."
They see that they will be deported back to their home countries should further terrorist attacks befall the US, just like what is happening in Britain.
There is always self-interest in every move they make. Theirs is a campaign of deceit, and I am sure they can absolve themselves of any real meaningful change with a quote or two from the Koran about lying to infidels.
Hmmm...did a little search. Sohaid Sultan is the author of "The Koran for Dummies".
Meanwhile - around the globe, Muslims continue to plot terrorist activities agains the US and it's allies - and are training new recruits to blow themselves up....
Could be genuine, could be disinformation. I'm getting concerned that the enemy here is trying different things and seeing which works and which doesn't. This may be one of them.
I need to see more numbers, more consistency here.
