I sometimes wonder why I'm not married. Who could accept a marriage that begins its sentiments with a weak phrase like "for as long as our marriage shall serve the common good." Who would want to marry an uncommitted person? It makes me thankful to live the bachelor life.

I think that a lot of people have forgotten how marriage is supposed to last. Our Lord Jesus Christ said this:

"It was said, 'Whoever sends his wife away, let him give her a certificate of divorce'; but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except in the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."

My husband's grandfather performed our ceremony and even HE wanted to take out "obey".. I told him to leave it in.

You know, at least "For as long as our love shall last" has a ring to it, even though it is totally noncommital. They don't want to make promises (forget "vow") that they can't keep, but there isn't much of a promise to this promise.

And I didn't even go with "til death us do part". Ours was "love you and honor you all the days of my life."
