Planning Commission Votes Against Day Labor Site
HERNDON, Va. (AP) - A set back for those hoping to build a site in Herndon, Virginia for day laborers.
WMAL Radio reports the planning commission voted early this morning against the site. A third public hearing on the matter was held last night. On Monday, hundreds of people signed up to speak at the hearing -- so many the extra session had to be added.
Supporters say the site would provide a safe gathering place for people who are willing to do undesirable jobs for low pay. It would also provide them with English tutors and social workers.
Opponents say most of the day laborers are in the country illegally and tax dollars should not be used to build such a facility.
It'll now be up to the Herndon Town Council whether to approve it. A vote on the 170-thousand dollar facility is expected on August 16th.

Actually, I heard a very interesting perspective on this last night on the not-Chris Core show. Guy called in and said they should build it. Then man it with INS officials checking visas as the workers enter. That way the few legal day workers could have a place and we could round up illegals.
Sweet young men.
I agree, besides being a safe place, what better place to observe and infiltrate. Dumb decision, I think.
Maybe businesses should start paying what they should on the free market.
When the pro-illegal organizers and do-gooders would object to such an idea for an Immigration Substation, then ask them "why?" "What are you trying to hide?" Our response: "Then only those legally allowed to work in the US would be vetted there, and any contractor coming to hire them would know he or she was not in violation, too?"
Great fall back idea.
Not from a taxpayer perspective. The Planning Commission shot down an idea that would have taken the public's tax money. Dumb decision to have the center in the first place; responsible good decision to stop it from proceeding from a public interest perspective.
Are not brrothels also a play for workers to gather who'd like to do undesirable jobs for low pay?
Unfortunately, Immigration enforcement is not interested.
Herndon officials have met with ICE agents to discuss the situation so they're fully aware of where these people are gathering already.
Apparently ICE has just a handful of agents assigned to Virginia and they're focused on the bigger fish, like MS-13--they don't have the time or manpower for nonsense like verifying immigration status.
But they do have time to waste meeting with the government bozos in Herndon.
This whole situation is pathetic.
And they can make their choice: patriots, or traitors?
Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.
"provide social workers" my my my.. American's go to the unemployment line and are treated like leachers, and given the third degree, hours in line filling out paperwork and these people want to provide taxpayer dollar building with social workers. How about INS picking them up and branding them, ship them back to where ever they came from, so we can id them when they return.
OK, I guess it depends on the perspective.
