August 4, 2005 Discovery of Stored Fetuses and Stillborns Roils France By JOHN TAGLIABUE

PARIS, Aug. 3 - The French health authorities have found the remains of 351 stillborn infants and fetuses that were stored illegally in the morgue of a prominent children's hospital, some for more than two decades, according to health officials.

The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, described the discovery as being "as surreal as it is illegal."

The government has ordered an investigation into the discovery at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, said the minister of health, Xavier Bertrand, who described himself as "enormously shocked" by the find.

"I want to share profound emotion and indignation in the face of such a discovery," he told French television Tuesday evening. "The situation demands that we find the truth."

The discovery will almost certainly fuel a debate about the medical storage and disposal of fetuses and stillborn infants.

But it has also evoked cries from medical researchers for caution not to eliminate the availability of such remains for scientific research.

The discovery was made after two women, one in May and one in July, asked about the fate of aborted fetuses that had been sent to St. Vincent to determine the cause of abnormalities. Without the assent of the parents allowing further research, such fetuses must be cremated not long after they are aborted.

One of the women, Caroline Lemoine, 28, was quoted by French newspapers on Wednesday as saying she had undergone an abortion three years ago.

"In working through my grief, there was something I had to do, something that was rattling around in my head," Ms. Lemoine told the daily Le Parisien. "To find out if my boy had been incinerated, the way they told me he would be."

Your boy? YOUR BOY?
Working through your guilt would be more like it.
He never had a chance to become a BOY much less a man.

This is a strange. She was willing to help murder the baby and now is concerned about which garbage can it was thrown in?

The old Josef Mendele (sp?) argument.

The need to eliminate the evidence of her choice? That'll make it all better.

Nobody seems to know why they stockpiled these 351 dead babies , but as soon as they are discovered the ghouls say dont destroy them we may be able to use them for something.

What a sick world.

Sounds like someone wants to rationalize their decision to murder their child.

The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, described the discovery as being "as surreal as it is illegal."

Yeah right. Wanting to have it both ways as usual. When it's abortion somebody wants, the unborn baby is just a pile of random cells that mean nothing. When you hear of something like this, it's surreal, illegal, a gross indignity and outrageous. Why is that, Mr. and Ms. Liberal? If it's just a collection of inconsequential cells, this story wouldn't be any more of a fuss than the fellow who had his amputated foot in a jar on his front porch as a conversation piece/decoration. As a matter of fact, a few jars of tiny babies hanging around the front porch might make even better conversation pieces. Fun to hear the gymnastics that a lib goes through when trying to justify these diabolically opposed positions.

When I read this last night I could not believe that these children's families, so many of them, did not even take them and give them funerals, burials, religious service, a grave, headstone, a place to visit and bring flowers, anything. They just got up and left their children there.

Gee.

Can you say "profit from stem cell material" ?

Mengele was at least up front about his immoral research.

This is astounding on several counts.

Obviously that this woman cared about what happened to the body of the son she murdered. Bizarre.

But also that anyone in the media would even mention that she had experienced 'grief.'

Why grief over lost tissue? Why grieve over your own convenience? Why grieve over something so commonplace and acceptable, and even encouraged by Western 'culture.'

It had to be a slip up to let the word 'grief' survive the editing.....

Strange and disturbing story, but relevant to our current discussion on using younger babies in embryonic form to do experiments on....

Appropriately, Mengele became an abortionist after fleeing to South America after WW II. When he died, most media outlets covered that up, but a few reported it, to the embarrassment of the abortion lobby.

Very strange indeed. Why oh why grieve over removed tissue? Over if that tissue is used for research? Over that it must be buried in ten days? I thot it was inconsequential, a lump of cells. Theory crashes against Reality.
