Hey, look! There's blind ol. Mr. johnson's seeing eye dog without a leash. Must've slipped out the door after that squirrel again.

Should we catch him for the poor ol' guy?

Nah! Let's blast him, you know the law!

Boom! Boom!

I've had two family members attacked by dogs.

My daughter was bitten in the head when she was two. One single bite. She required over two hundred stitches and her eye lid and tear gland had to be rebuilt. Luckily, she has no visible scars and she still loves dogs... almost to a fault. She is 15 now and I can barely keep her from running straight to any dog to start petting it. Sometimes I pull out an old photo of her disfigured face and shaved head with oozing wounds and tubes coming out of her eye to remind her of what dogs are capable of.

My sister raised a dog from a pup and one day she heard it fighting with another one of her dogs. As she lived on a farm and had several dogs, she ran to break up the fight only to find her Dalmatian dead and her "wouldn't hurt a fly, raised from a puppy, never mistreated" dog turning on her with full intent to do the same to her. Luckily, she always carried and put 15 rounds in the animal before it could harm her. She felt like she had killed a member of her own family.

Guess what breed both animals were.

I respect your experience and opinion, but I think it's a mistake to put guns and dogs in the same category. Whether we like it or not, dogs are somewhat independent actors in their own existence.

Even an irresponsible gun owner still has to PULL the trigger.

That's why I think some regulations or ordinances(requiring obedience school for larger dogs and leash laws strictly enforced) are in order, whereas the free man should be presumed free to own firearms, knives, clubs and stun guns.
