Star Trek geekdom is spiraling out of control in Scotland where four towns are warring over the birthplace of the fictional Enterprise engineer, Scotty.
The row erupted after the recent death of actor James Doohan (don't tell the Scots, but he was Canadian) who portrayed Montgomery Scott in the U.S. TV cult classic.
Aberdeen, Linlithgow, Elgin and Edinburgh all claim to be Scotty's birthplace -- regardless of the fact Scotty's true birthplace was the head of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, the Edinburgh Scotsman reported.
Nonetheless, city officials and Trekkies in all four towns have proof backing up their claims and each has plans to erect a memorial Scotty as portrayed by -- dare we say -- a Canadian.
LOL.
All hands abandon ship!
scotty ruled
From what I understand there's a statue someplace in Iowa denoting the "future" birth place of one James T. Kirk.
Wait till they find out Scotty was really Welsh!!
:-)
"Ya canna change the laws of physics, Cap'n!"
"Fascinating..."
I think they should solve it
with a drinking contest!
Anyone know where to pick up a couple of
cases of Aldeberan Whisky? :o)
Though i'm sure some good old Scotch
from the homeland would do..in a pinch!
I didn't know that Scotty died. That's too bad.
I can't remember the name of it but I'm almost certain he was born on another planet that was colonized by Scots.
the scene opens in ten forward where DATA is pouring SCOTTY a drink:
Scotty: "what is it?"
Data: (eying the bottle quizzically) "it is" (smelling it now)"it is "(staring at it even harder) "it is green" (hands glass to scotty)
Scotty's not dead. He's born 150 years from now.
While James Doohan was born in Canada, Scotty may well have been born somewhere in Scotland.
Scotty was (will be?) from Edinburgh. Everybody knows that!
Romulan Ale or Klingon Blood Wine
Where was Zefram Cochrane born?
