lamance County, NC -- Twenty-five of the suspected gang members were arrested here in the Triad alone, 34 in the Triangle area and 18 in Charlotte.
Triad communities rallied at their local National Night Out events to show they're going to fight this growing gang problem.
National Night Out is an anti-crime and drug event supported by law enforcement agencies nationwide.
"We've educated ourselves on what to look for as far as gangs, but it's sad that we have to resort to that" says Graham resident Wendy Oakely, a mother of two.
Police say community education is key and that means looking for visual signs like colors, gang signs and symbols, and suspicious tattoos.
"We have so much on our plate we need people in the community to help be our eyes and ears" says Lt. Grant Kapp from the Alamance County Sheriff's Department.

After my confrontation with two MS-13s and then seeing pictures of MS-13s being loaded on the plane I have no doubt that I can spot one from fifty yards away and positive that up close I can tell one by looking into their eyes.
My area is 40% Hispanic but I've never seen the combination of clothes, hair, facial expression and demeanor of the two MS-13s who were introduced to me as "my little skin head Meskins."
Is it time to bring back Midnight Basketball again?
So what's your point here. Are you saying that the gangers are easy to distinguish from the rest of the population by their tattoos and fashion sense or is there something else about them that bothered you?
I'm not being a wise@ss - people really need to know.
Are you feeling O.K.?
(How bad is the old L.A. train station in now?)
No, I didn't see any tattoos, I saw evil. I didn't even know they were MS-13 until after they left.
They were well groomed and dressed. Short, stocky, shaved heads. no visible weapons and no reaction at all when they were introduced to me simply as "my little skin head Meskins".
What scared the crude out of me was the supreme chilling confident slight smiles on their faces and the cold deadly look in their eyes.
They didn't even say a word or nod their heads, they just locked their eyes on me as if they were memorizing my face for future reference and then turned around and left.
I saw that same look many years ago on a serial murderer on death row when I confronted him on a fatal discrepancy in his story. Once you've seen it you don't forget it.
The MS-13 are universally hated in my area because of their brutality. When they first came to town I understand they executed two of their own family just to demonstrate their brutality to the cocaine dealers they were taking orders from for cocaine that was still in Mexico.
That's the same thing I was thinking. Maybe someone stole his screen name....
Post it and we'll read it then.
Post what?
Your encounter. Post it under vanity and ping me.
Just for giggles they like capturing their perceived rivals and confine them with car tires. Then they toss gasoline on them and light 'em up. I hear the coroners dread the results (it seems the rubber mixes with the scorched flesh...)
Please keep in mind that I've been railing against illegal immigration because of all the harm and corruption that stems from it. MS-13 is the Frankenstein's monster culmination of our government looking the other way for far too long.
As I don't wish you harm (despite previous invective you've deserved, IMO) I suggest keeping an eye peeled for these guys while insuring you never have any voluntary contact with them again. They don't play and they don't have a sense of humor. I know I wouldn't want to be a reason for their laughter.
Immigration, border security, and drug interdiction are three separate problems. Border Patrol guards are the least relevant leos concerning MS-13. ICE can deport them. Immigration & Customs Inspectors can limit their ability to smuggle drugs through the ports of entry,
But the way to eliminate MS-13 is the same way we have eliminated other gangs-- through tried and proven anti-gang law enforcement tactics.
Notice, it was the FBI, not CBP that did the investigatory work to hand ICE the gang members on a silver platter. Their job was made easier because MS-13 has no local support, unlike other gangs. Locals are more than glad to help identify MS-13, but that could change real fast if the Tancredo crowd gets legislation passed that would require locals who inform on MS-13 to be locked up in the same detention facilities with the gang members they informed on.
The one additional factor we have in our favor is that vigilante death squads are waiting to kill the MS-13 members when they arrive back in their home countries.
You say "vigilante" as though you believe it's a good thing.
Sometimes it is. Vigilante is just a word that can in some cases can be good and in other cases can be bad.
I have difficulty thinking of the Minutemen border patrol as real vigilantes. More like keystone cops. I saw some of them in Tomball tonight and they looked like they had wandered off from an Alzheinzers home.
There needs to be another group of volunteers assembled just to watch over them to make sure they don't hurt themselves crossing streets.
I bet the ACLU members who sat in their cars smoking joints while watching the Minutemen in Arizona would be up for it.
