Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto

Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

CBC live on scene. Claiming Lufthansa but can't see tail for all the smoke. If it is Luft I saw the plane on final right over my office. Very bad fire with secondary explosions. Given where that plane came to rest it may have been very hard if not impossible to evac. If that's the case this is a major disaster.

I know. I don't see any of the emergency vehicles moving closer to the crash or away. Doesn't look good.

CNN confirming aircraft went into ravine, and confired a 737. Some reports have over 200 on board.

Large flames visible, with dark black smoke. Possibly crashed on takeoff.

We noted that too. Emergency veicles seem to be way back, away from aircraft.

Very bad fire with secondary explosions...

Secondary explosions would be very serious indeed.

Black smoke billowing. MSNBC: believed to be Air France 737

If happened on takeoff probably not Lufthansa. I saw the daily flight come in on final and I don't think they could have turned it around so quickly.

Per CNN 737.

Anyone else note how far emergency vehicles appear to be from the crash?
