I have frequently recommended Diamond Age on FR threads. Most of Stephenson's work has not impressed me (too long and unfocused). But "Diamond Age" should be read by anyone who cares about Science Fiction or nanotecnology.

Stephenson's Snow Crash was one of the first on the theme of the interaction of the real and virtual worlds, so it is often rated higher than Diamond Age.

To me, Diamond Age is in the first 10 of the hard Sci-Fi.

Another theme from there is quazi-nations, and we are here are citizens of the Free Republic!
