How about instead of bitching about lack of money for phys ed programs in the schools, the parents get their kids up off the couch and outside for some exercise. You dont need a lot of equipment to stay fit. You just need to move. Sitting in front of the PC eating cookies is not the answer. Since when is it the governments responsiblity to get the little fatties moving.

I think it was the late (and missed by me) Jack Paar who made a comment years ago about how when he was a kid he got his exercise by walking 10 miles to school, but now, his daughter rides an expensive bus that transports her to a school where she uses an expensive gymnasium to exercise. I know I walked to school back and forth every day (and for some of those years I even came home for lunch). I think that's when the children's health began to decline -- when we had to bus them to and from school.
I remember through out much of my school days until I graduated from high school in 1964 I had to walk about a mile to school each day. It was a lot shorter distance than my parents had to walk 25 years earlier. Your right now, kids dont walk to school. Even if their parents wanted to they would be worried sick about what might happen to them these days.
