A 16-year-old girl who had been missing since Saturday was found stabbed to death and dismembered and police say her killer lived right next door.
Jonathan Zarate, 18, appeared Monday in Morris County Court to face charges of murder, weapons offenses, and hindering apprehension in the slaying of Jennifer Parks. Zarate lived next door to Parks in their Randolph, N.J., neighborhood, and prosecutors say the 16-year-old victim left her house early Saturday morning to watch TV with Zarate. But then, authorities said, the two became embroiled in an argument that led to Parks' gruesome killing.

No quarrels here about the innocent until proven guilty part. There was a story a few days back about '5 people allegedly stabbed by unknown assailant' (paraphrasing here, but something to that affect). And I thought, well were they stabbed or not?? I know it's nitpicky, but it's just one of those words that annoys me.

Could be that the knife ( the perp) acted alone in this crime, just like guns and SUVs have been known to do. We must wait til the facts are in before judging.

The great divide in our culture at the moment isn't political, or ideological, or socio- or economic, but is moral, or spiritual. Two generations ago, say, back in the immediate post-WW2 era, the election of Ike, around there, there was still what many have called a "Christian concensus" in that while many people may not have been believers, they still accepted many of the key moral teachings of our Judeo-Christian cultural tradition. No more. Many people have pitched common decency, common respect for others, respect for life, over the side. That's the main schism in our society today -- those who essentially respect others, respect life, elevate decency, act with self-control and civility, and those who do not. And we're accused of forcing our values upon others.

I couldn't agree with you more, and very well said, by the way.
My husband and I have discussed just what you are talking about. It is no longer a left vs. right, Liberal vs. Conservative, Republican vs. Democrat world. It is truly a good vs. evil time. People do not want to live with any kind of accountability. They want to do whatever they want with no consequences. It truly is a cancer eating away at our way of life. Then, add in the Muslim problem where world religious domination and intolerance is spreading like wildfire, and these are truly scary times.
People can say what they want about Savage, but I totally agree that Liberalism is a mental disorder, a disease.

Plus he got his 14 year old brother involved and a 16 year old friend. Sounds to me like this guy is an evil "pied piper" - we've all seen them - older kids who can't function in their peer group so they prey on younger kids.
The girl was 2 years younger than him too. My guess is this guy has been bad news coming for a long time.

It annoys reporters too, who know the perp is guilty as hell. But they have to use it to avoid prosecution for libel. It's always amusing to me to see how quickly it all changes from "alleged killer" to "killer" or "vicious murderer" once the jury's spoken, as if they've been saving those words up.
But there are instances when the "alleged" perp is found innocent in the end. I think of Richard Jewell, accused of Eric Rudolph's Olympic bombing, who even now is justifiably seeking big money libel judgments in court.
