I hadn't thought about a "gay" angle. Having to drug women in order to rape them does not say he is into sex, per se, but more into power. How is homosexuality perceived in Aruba? Would a homosexual be an outcast/target to the Aruban "gangstas?"

A proud Southerner. Ancestors from SE Georgia. Great-g-grandfather fought with the 54th Georgia Co. K Army of Tennessee. Great-grandmother Emily hid under the fireplace to avoid Sherman's march through Georgia. Our flag is unfurled every day and we are Confederate re-enactors. Hope this answers your question, cajungirl.

regarding the pic of Joran..

While I think that the picture is absolutely disgusting, I also think that it's indicitive of the general culture of young people today. Just turn on MTV - especially when they're showing their spring break specials.. you see that behavior all the time. Kid's think that's what they are supposed to do. Our culture has lowered the bar on what is acceptable behaviour in public.

I know common thought is "they're going to do it anyway".. the drinking and partying... but if very high standards are not taught in the home when kids are very young - then when they are introduced to more outrageous behavior they are not shocked. Our entire culture has been desensitized to "outrageous" behavior... actions that were once considered proper only in a bedroom for married couples is now on television.

I know I battle it everyday .. it's not just on MTV anymore.. shoot it's on regular television. I guess I'm a prude.. laugh..

Good question. Someone noticed that the kids there don't wear the droopy drawers like here, don't have the piercings and tatoos. Hard to tell.

I believe Lorenzo was hosting a party that night and JVDS took her there. I believe some of the guests may know what happened [was she drugged, raped and filmed in one of the back rooms at the house?] Maybe it was too much and he got scared and left.

These are not my personal theories but gleaned from what I've read. That JVDS is a scapegoat and not the one responsible for her demise. That it is a boy she saw earlier in the week who is responsible. Obviously, a major player. I believe that person is Lorenzo, if this scenario plays at all.

I believe that's correct. Not admissable, but having been made public it will go miles toward his credibility, right?

Unless for some reason he declines to perform that legal documentation the judge (requested?) or did he order it?

Anyone know if what is said in this article is true?? Is the search really winding down? Say it isn't so!

Search for Natalee Holloway Winding Down
Searchers looking for Natalee Holloway on and around the island of Aruba are giving their effort one more day. If they find no trace of the Alabama teen today, they plan to leave the Caribbean tomorrow, possibly meaning the world may never know what happened to the missing honors student.

Forensic divers from Florida State University, Navy SEALS volunteering their vacation time, specially-equipped F-16s from Holland, the Dutch Marines, and members of the Texas-based EquuSearch have searched on land and underwater, in caverns and lagoons for some trace of Natalee Holloway with no results.

Tim Miller, director of Texas EquuSearch, said he doesn't believe Natalee, who disappeared May 30 just before she was supposed to catch a flight home, is on the island. His teams plans to leave Aruba if they find nothing today, with the help of the two Navy SEALS diving team.

Appeal Hearings Tuesday

Meanwhile, two appeal hearings are scheduled Tuesday in connection with the case. The prosecution plans to appeal before a three-judge panel a decision last week by a judge who ordered the release of Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, who had been detained since June 9.

Also, attorneys for Joran Van Der Sloot, plan to appeal the decision by the same judge to continue his detention for 60 more days.

News reports indicate that the Aruban prosecutor now has forensic reports of evidence collected in the case, which was sent to Holland for analysis and has now been returned. The prosecutor did not have those reports in time for last week's hearings, the reports said.

The nature of that evidence is unknown."

pamlet, that reminds me of the C&C free beer contests, one of which was simulating sex.

4 positions = free beer.

Creepy and sickening. And, in this case, all too believable.

I think at least some of the girls from MB would have found Joran attractive. He has kids of that preppy "frat boy" look.. the button up shirts, tall, sun-kissed hair.. (there goes that "harliquen" influence again.. haha).

Let's remember - at the point when they first saw him no one knew that he'd be a suspect in a dissappearance of one of their friends.

While in Cancun this past January, we visited both Senor Frogs and Carlos & Charlies. Both places were total Zoo's, admitting what seemed like 16 year olds. We walked out of both places after only 5 minutes! Can you imagine a conga line while carrying a young woman up in the air (rave style). We finally found a great restaurant, Lorenzilla's and had a great meal.

Exactly .. I know a few years back.. actually more like 7-10 years ago I was absolutely FLOORED when I watched MTV for the first time in years.

When MTV first came out I was in my 20's.. at the time some of the stuff was pretty risque.. I remember being shocked at the Robert Palmer video with the girls in black dresses.. haha.. it was very sensual. Then we didn't watch it. When we moved to Texas our cable company didn't even have MTV.. laugh.. SO when they did I put it on expecting it to be what I remembered.. it was a real eye opener. Then as we got some young people at work I'd listen to their discussions regarding music, what they did when they went out... it was pretty eye opening.. It's ACCEPTED behavior. YUCK

I've been back through thread 11 and cannot find them. Maybe they're on 10. But I'm pretty sure they are confirmed.

Anyone have a location?

When my kids were young we refused to let our kids watch MTV. We had to block the channel from the lineup. Today it's even worse!

There's a pic of a guy with dreads that I have a strong hunch is him, but nobody has ever been able to say for certain. They don't have confirmed pics of him over on SM either. Apparently, everyone is too intimidated by this guy to put his face out there.

oh yeah.. I should have noted that as well - while we couldn't block it at the time we DID make it off limits.. we were pretty strict about television anyway.

VH1 is just about as bad - it's off limits too.

I have to laugh tho' my 16 year old calls the music on MTV "rap crap".. he hates it..
