British Transport Police have been targeting specific ethnic groups for "intelligence-led" stop-and-searches as part of their heightened security measures.
BTP Chief Constable Ian Johnston said that his officers would not "waste time searching old white ladies".

I won't post the whole article since I believe they are on the no-no list, but I do find it interesting that London police take these kinds of things a bit more seriously than our own government.

Yes, it is interesting that the Brits have decided on common sense, but news talk shows, at least on Fox, are tweaking themselves into a similar position. I don't hold out any hope for CNN, however.

I guess it'll take a few suicide bombers here before we do something so sensical.

Oh No! Racial profiling! That's not fair. If there's an equivalent of our ACLU (BCLU?), they're going to be all over this one.
I, too, like the way Britain is handling their terror situation. We should emulate them, but we won't because we don't want to hurt anyones feelings.
Our touchy-feely methods will eventually bring about our doom. Sad thing.

You could have suicide bombers who transported both themselves and their bombs across our southern border, and the government would still be wasting resources on ridiculous airport searches and throwing it away on various cities under the guise of preparing them for a terrorism attack (when it's more like "worship the federal government, look what we provide you").
Our government is hopeless.

LOL! Gee, how quickly the PC crap is thrown out the window when things get serious. After 9-11, Leno said something like this on his show:
"People say there isn't racial profiling going at the airport, but's let be honest. If your first name is Mohammad, and your last name is not Ali, you'd better allow extra time at check-in."

You know, thats not even sarcastic. The Brits have been through too much devastation and warfare on their soil to stand on political correctness when they are attacked. They knew what the Germans were in WWII and what the IRA wanted to do, and they have now figured out the muslims. They know who the enemy is and will call a spade a spade.
We, on the other hand have little empirical evidence to draw on save 911, to the consequences of ignoring, understanding, and loving our enemies. I hope we don't learn the hard way.

I don't see this source on the no-no list.

I hear that they say, "This is just media speculation"
No information about whether the "speculation" has merit.
Parsing words.

It must have been one of the other newspapers/sites from that area then.
I just found it newsworthy because it's such a contrast to our efforts in the US.

Wow, wish this country would take a lesson from this! They aren't allowed to stop Islamic terrorists for searches here are they? /sarcasm, sort of!

British Transport Police have been targeting specific ethnic groups Where is the ACLU, CAIR, etc, etc, etc.
Far as I can tell, the Brits just told them, and their equivalent groups in Jolly Olde to go pi$$ up a rope.

People say there isn't racial profiling going at the airport, but's let be honest. If your first name is Mohammad, and your last name is not Ali, It's *not* racial, it's cultural screening. If you are from a culture where people name their kids after old Mo, you're a bunch more likely to be a terrorist.
