Former Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Bill Scranton III (R) has been less than candid in how he and his campaign are spinning his close and continuing ties to the purported international pseudo-religious cult led by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi -- despite his claims these connections no longer exist.

I thought this would be a story about the guv's friendship with the state DNC honcho.
The author of the article isn't objective, but this does not reflect well on Scranton.
I really dont care too much for Fast Eddie and this guy seems like a whack job just based on this report (assuming it is fairly accurate). I am curious to see who the Constitution Party candidate is for governor.
At least he's not a practicing Catholic!
He could BE a yogi but if he were for gay marriage and abortion he could get favorable coverage in the D.C. papers.
This wasn't news to me at all. Scranton's affiliations with the Natural Law Party and the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi are well-known and have been for 20 years. Regardless of how we feel about this offbeat religion of transcendental meditation and its goals, Gunzberger's expose reeked of bigotry and hatemongering that really should be treated beneath contempt. I'd certainly think that if Mr. Scranton feels that engaging in that sort of meditation to give him inner peace helps him, well, good for him. I'd certainly take these Natural Law types over Islamic bombers and a good number of 'Rats.
I guess I can expect another expose on that "dangerous Sikh diaperhead" running for IL Lieutenant-Governor in his next piece.
Sickening.
Sounds to me like the Rendell campaign might be a bit desparate. Although I haven't gone to every link on the source webpage, most of them seem to involve liberal Philly or Pa politics. Perhaps they are testing out how this idea flies in Philly. If Rendell cannot come out of Philly with a couple hundred thousand vote plurality, it's over for his second term and would probably seriously damage his credibility as a Dem VP contender. Some of his recent moves (e.g. the abortion funding flap) seem to indicate he's starting to play to his wacko lib base, which he wouldn't be doing this close to the election if he didn't have to firm them up. Rendell is as far left as they come but he tries to play himself as a cheesesteak eating moderate.

This is Drew, from over at the Wes Clark 2008 Campaign Group.
We need
help in helping to mobilize today against a MAJOR infringement of our
liberties.
The F.E.C. in typical Big Brother/1984 move has made a proposal to
limit free speech on the internet, through groups like our own, and
other campaign-related websites. This affects way more, then just a
political campaign.
Here is the proposal : http://www.fec.gov/agenda/2005/mtgdoc05-16.pdf
I am adding it to our files.
This is almost a modern-day version of the Alien and Sedition Act in
the words of Ron Gunzburger.
So, we need to do, three things.
1.) Read the proposal.
2.) Write a letter of outrage to internet@...
3.) Forward this issue onto EVERY group you are involved in. Be sure,
when you write your letter, WHO you are representing. If you choose
to represent our group, post a copy to us here, so we know.
Folks, we got to move fast, like a blitzkrieg on this one. Otherwise,
the Bush, Cheney, DeLay, & Co. will score a MAJOR victory in limiting
our freedoms.
A sample letter to them comes from my good friend, Ron Gunzburger at

PLEASE mobilize with us, today!

Politics1 has some useful links though.
The Constitution Party of PA does not have any official candidate prospects, yet. They had a meeting in early May and I was told that there was some general discussions on the topic as well as several other races.
As for this story, the rumors are "official" rumors as far as that goes and very well might be true. Whether they are or not, this story will not play well among PA conservatives.
Of course Scranton is trailing Lynn Swann in the GOP primary so this is all probably moot as far as the general election goes.
