How many recess appointments has President Bush made so far? I am on a chat site where one chatter claims this would be the 106th. Personally I don't think he made 20
That is a brilliant idea. I suggest that you reformat this post into its own thread, and ask FReepers to contact Sen. Frist and their own senators (and the representatives?) to see that such a resolution gets enacted.
You can't NUKE them if they don't filibuster. The Gang of Seven Dems won't filibuster Roberts, he is guaranteed an up-or-down vote, he'll win more than 60 votes in the end.
The RATS will keep their powder dry for the next nomination.
If Bolton is confirmed, then by default he has the "confidence" of a majority of the Senate.
What you are really saying is that he will not have your confidence...and you know what? Cry me a river.
If (God forbid) you ever win a Democratic President and a majority in the Senate...then your opinion on the matter may make a difference.
Dodd hasn't been "right" since before 1968 (the Gun Control Act of 1968, to be exact, which he helped "write" by lifting entire sections of the German Nazi-era gun control laws, almost verbatim.) By my mathematical reckoning, that's 37 years...
the infowarrior
I just called Sen. Frist's office and passed the suggestion, made above, that the Senate pass a (non-filibusterable) sense-of-the-Senate resolution that the appointment of Amb. Bolton was appropriate.
This would take the wind out of the sails of those Democratic Senators who challenge the legitimacy of the appointment on the basis that the Senate did not confirm it.
Dodd is right......We should bring Bolton name to the Senate floor immediately for and up or down vote.
yeah! Great idea!
And let us not forget the commie-symp Chrissie [Dontcha love my quivering dewlaps?] Dodd, rolling around on the floor of a DC restaurant [La Brasserie-1985] in a passionate embrace with his other hero, Fat Teddy the Chappaquiddick Scuba Driver. Of course the media version is that the two lovebirds were separated by their waitress, but considering the source and the participants, that has to be a fig leaf.
I thought Chris Dodd's dad Tom Dodd was an embarassment, but I would be happy to have old Tom back ... and being dead he could neither vote nor filibuster. Remember, the Democrats set the standard in Missouri in the Ashcroft-Carnahan race that a dead person can be elected. Perhaps the voters in Connecticut should establish a Tom Dodd for Senate campaign in 2006 just to see if Diner-man can lose to Nutcase-man.
News for Chris Dodd. The Senate is damaged goods and lacks the confidence of the American people.
How can we forget that little tryst!
In this day and time, lacking the confidence of Congress is a good thing.
OOoops, wrong Dodd.
Oh well, I am certain no one is complaining ;)
