'Actions were a peaceful protest over the Iraq war'
Times Online ^ | August 01, 2005 | Richard Owen and Martin Penner in Rome

Posted on 07/31/2005 5:25:48 PM PDT by jmc1969

THE lawyer representing Hussain Osman, the London bomb suspect, said that he had denied that the failed attacks on July 21 had anything to do with the bombings a fortnight earlier.

“He has justified his actions as a form of protest against the fact that civilians are suffering in wars at the present time.

“He is not at all a violent person and made sure he would not cause any damage, injuries or deaths. There wasn’t a very clearly defined plan, the whole thing was set the day before, in a meeting with this group of friends.”

Italy said that it would extradite Osman “with all speed”. Signora Sonnessa said, after visiting him at the high- security Regina Coeli prison in Rome, that the extradition process could take several months. The Italian authorities acknowledged that the extradition of Osman — who has told his interrogators that he is Ethiopian and that his real name is Hamdi Adus Isaac — will not be immediate.

Britain will give extradition documents to a Rome court today under the European Arrest Warrant procedures, which were introduced to Italian law last week.

So he was protesting the fact that Moslems are killing Moslems in Iraq by planting bombs in London's subways?
I don't think a British jury is gonna buy it.

“He has justified his actions as a form of protest against the fact that civilians are suffering in wars at the present time."

Uh, Helloooo Mr. Attorney!

It's the TERRORISTS like Your "pee-wee" client & his Fruends that are WHY "...civilians are suffering in wars at the present time."

So, is this to be the defense strategy for all the future terrorists? Wonder where they got the idea?

You answered my question before I asked it...."Have the American (I use that term only descriptively) loonies picked up on this yet?"

I'd like to see the A.N.S.W.E.R. scumbags try a stunt like that...

made sure he would not cause any damage, injuries or deaths

Fine, let him explain in detail how he assured it would not explode, and why they all acted so supprised when it didn't.

Scotland Yard already knows exactly the mistake they made in bomb construction, (but are not talking) and they already said it would have made a large explosion had it been done right.

Furthermore: If his claim that it was cooked up over night were true, it would be a VERY GOOD reason to start surching Muslim households en mass. If every muslim household has access to bomb making materials and can hatch a plot over night, then massive searches and deportations are in order.

What a crock of pickles. The only reason he can claim this is the fact that he was an incompetent jihadist. This has nothing to do with social protest. It that was the case, there are hundreds of ways to go about that protest without planting bombs that don't go off. Whoever would come up with such a stupid plot? Off with his head.

There wasn’t a very clearly defined plan...

This isn't a very clearly defined defense.

... the high-security Regina Coeli prison in Rome ...

Probably no place you’d want to be, but a beautiful name, meaning “Queen of Heaven.”

I recommend that the next time this brainless jughead wants to play pretend terrorist he goes back to Ethiopia and do it there. A civilized society that has just had a number of its people murdered by terrorist bombs isn't really up to playing games with a moron who wants to "protest" something. And that goes for his "lawyer" too.

SO they packed a bomb with sharpened nails, just because they weren't going to set it off? Hmmmmmm.

If this ain't one of the stupider things I ever heard. Wonder if they'll end up with an insanity defense.

That seems a natural. It is one of those, "He must have been crazy to even think of doing that." However, they often proudly proclaim their guilt so no defense is possible. Those who don't confess are the ones who the leftists lawyers get to first. They like to make a propaganda show trial.

This guy said it was a 'peace protest.' Yes, we are reminded that Islam is the religion of peace and the Brits should now know how they peacefully protest... What a Joke! The Islamic fanatics believe that true peace will only come once the west is defeated. What this guy says about peace is BS!

This guy had the pat answers, a false identity, the training to use a bomb and escape England, the knowledge of cell phone traces and how to counter them, the contacts in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, etc. In other words, he was a trained saboteur. There is nothing peaceful about him or his cause.

Either this guy's lying and he's in Al-Qaeda, or he's a member of Code Pink. :-)
