Ever-negative AOL had a link on its opening news page - something close to "What has Bush lost this year?" I realized it was their spin on his doctor's annual checkup.

Shamefully, only 56, but too many years of chain smoking and complete lack of exercise has taken a toll. This story is a keen reminder that maybe its not too late.

It was also reported W's heart rate maxed out at 183 during his treadmill stress test. That's very very good for a man of his age (although heart (resting and max) is not a really reliable indicator of fitness (varies too much person to person)). The gold standard of aerobic fitness is V02max test .

Yeah, and those 6 times a week doesn't even include quality time with Laura.

How can the left spin something negative out of this?

They'll say, "Sure, but can he survive a winter at Valley Forge?"

Jim Fixx comes to mind, never know when it is time....

At least he's outlived Fixx by almost 7 years...

He was a walking heart attack...just that his name has become synonymous with healthy folks keelin' over...

Well, you're half right. Jim Fixx (how many years ago was that?) has become the poster child for those who hate to exercise and resent those who are fit. As others have pointed out, Fixx was a former two pack a day smoker with a family history of heart disease (his dad died in his late 30s). Since Fixx lived to 49, you could say that he gained ten years of active life by his decision to stop smoking and take up running. He probably should have cut down his mileage as he got older, and consulted his doctor a little more often, but at worst he was the exception who proved the rule that a healthy lifestyle is better.

no telling what hidden surprises his system had waiting for him as he stressed himself beyond sanity in the name of health.

Narrowed coronary arteries come to mind.

Fix has a huge family history of heart problems, the exercise is what added the extra years to his life where other men in his line had already died.

My 21 year-old daughter has worked for and given money to his presidential campaigns. She gets pictures of President Bush and the First Lady in the mail. She has them framed and on the wall in her apartment!

Jim Fixx had a number of really nasty family risk factors. His brother died of a heart attack in his 30's. There have been a number of other early heart related deaths in the family - all at an early age. Jim Fixx's exercise most probably got him a few extra years.

The lefties have already been complaining about the amount that George W. Bush exercises. One editiorial appeared in the Moonbatapolis Star and Sickle.

Being physically fit (probably!) makes you more mentally alert and improves outlook on life. When you're the leader of the free world, that's bound to help.

They need to market a poster of him, for conservative teenager girls to post on their walls.

Teenage girls my foot! How about for middle-aged conservative women (like me). LOL.

Ditto. :) I like the one in the flight suit, although the one of Mr. President hauling brush is okay with me.
