San Francisco. Much of its livelihood is based on the naval facilities in the area.
And even though this would be a big tourist draw and moneymaker for the city, they overwhelming thumbed their nose at it.
Gotta love liberals.
Or at least laugh at them.

I know I'm an idiot...but didn't the Japanese sign the papers to end the war on the deck of the Missouri?
(Maybe I woke up in an alternate universe this morning...dang). Never mind.

Maybe they can reactivate the USS Iwoa's 16" guns and do a little "redecorating" in SanFran's City Hall. ;) Maybe fill in a few potholes on Castro St. while they are at it. :)

Last I checked, a liberty ship and a submarine (both WWII era) were moored at Fisherman's Wharf. Took a self-guided tour of the former. Any designs to remove these, too?

Are liberals now against our involvement in World War Two? No, because we were fighting the Republican Party back then. ;)

Glad these A-holes weren't in charge circa 50+ years ago, when I was a mean wittle kid, but still got take a public tour of the USS Missouri during an open-house at San Francisco.
I also don't remember any businessmen in 'The City' refusing to accept any of my N.S. Treasure Island Navy pay in '63, when I was meaner, bigger kid.

Send it to Chicago. We would love to have it here. It would be a great adition to NAVY pier.
San Faq-sisco should become a boat and float out to sea with all them butt lovers with it.

Many people mistakenly refer to an admiral with a single star as a Rear Admiral, when in fact they are a Rear Admiral (lower half). Why in the world did they get rid of commodores, and why didn't they come up with a better title than rear admiral lower half?

More like the odor of 3 day old underwear.
I'd like stories such as this to get serious airplay. Ya think we can count on the networks to get this out to middle America?

IBM's replaced them.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

"San Francisco doesn't deserve it...send them a bung-boat instead."
Wouldn't a ferry boat be more appropriate? (Bet you didn't even know they had a navy.)

Time to move all military and federal money out of San Francisco and send it where people appreciate America. Exactly. IMO, perhaps happening to always Left, Portland, OR, a satellite of the Peoples Republic of Eugene, OR. They likely will lose their ANG interceptor unit as part of base closings. If it tells you anything, Portland had marxist-wannabe Vera (Kitty) Katz as a Mayor at one time. The city wouldn't cooperate with the Feds, as I recall, relating to illegal immigration. Pravda-wannabe newspaper The Oregonian carried articles whining about the lack of protection in this day and age of terrorism and would have to rely on CA and WA for air protection.
You think these might be possible reasons?
Clue 1: You reap what you sow!!
Clue 2: Subtle paybacks are hell.
Clue 3: As H.L. Mencken observed, The American people get the government they deserve, good and hard.
Send the Iowa to Corpus Christi, Texas where people love the Navy.
Can't. My first ship in the Navy in the early 60's was the carrier LEXINGTON, which I hear is a awesome museum there...IMAX, scout sleep-over program, etc..

They call it the "CITY", I call it Frisco, it really bugs them.

Rev. Jim Jones's stronghold, where everyone from the Mayor to the DA was in his pocket. Jimmy Carter too.

Sounds like a case for the EPA. The city is a HAZMAT afterall.

"I am sad to say I am not proud of the history of the United States of America since the 1940s,'' Daly said.
This person is on the board of supervisors in San Francisco? He needs a time-out in Fallujah for at least 90 days. If he is so ashamed of US history then he should have the courage of his convictions and march his unpatriotic @ss out!
To: pabianice
I'm sure San Francisco would not refuse the SSN-651 (U.S.S. Queenfish)
