And yes, even in the '40s and '50s, that was true! The public was kept in the dark. You're absolutely wrong and completely uninformed about the seedier side of Hollywood history.
You're so right...and one actress who was positively evil was Bette Davis. It's amazing her reputation has withstood all the absolutely horrible things she did in her personal life. You have to be one incredibly talented person for your legacy to remain intact after having the kinds of revelations as she has had.
It's too bad that people must act so ugly. Wonder why psychiatrists and psychologists like to believe that everyone's born so "good" and everyone just "learns" to be bad; it's quite evident human nature isn't very good at all.
Don't forget Cary Grant- nee Archibald Leach- who, literally, came from poverty. His dad locked his mom away in an asylum when he was 10 and never told him what happened to her. He finally found out she was alive when he was in his 30s and his dad died. He was a great actor and 100% class-he really was a pretty decent person from everything I've read (which is everything. LOL) I'd take a Cary clone anyday. :)
