NEW YORK-Lauren Bacall tells TIME Tom Cruise is not a great actor. "When you talk about a great actor, you're not thinking about Tom Cruise," Bacall says.

"His whole behavior is so shocking. It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it's a kind of sickness."

Who was also a wife beater; albeit, one who was also beaten by one of his wives...the one he was married to, when he was committing adultery with Bacall.

Lauren Bacall, isn't she one of the ones called to testify before congress regarding her membership to the Communist Party...

Tom Cruise due to his complete mind controlled involvement in Scientology has probably gone absolutely insane.

Mr. Cruise I have met great actors. I have worked with great actors. Great actors have been friends of mine. But Mr. Cruise, you are no great actor.

A little Lloyd Bensen spin on what she might have said to him face to face.

Filthe, debauchery, and adultery will always be with us, human beings being what they are; however, it was not flaunted or treated as societal correct; nor did they buy into all the moral relavitism which most espouse today; neither were the American haters; they were, as a whole, a great deal more pro-military and patriotic than today.

I think some people are naive with the idea of old school Hollywood class. There NEVER was any. It was just hidden then because the culturally liberally hadn't wormed their way in to the common consciousness and debauched behavior in the public eye wouldn't be tolerated. Marilyn Monroe had more than 10 abortions? That was classy, huh?

Yeah, but she came through Hollywood in the day when women were actresses and knew how to act as an actress, instead of insisting on becoming actors.

Yes they were. The public just was much more hostile towards that kind of behavior then so it had to be hidden.

Of course Tom Cruise isn't a real actor. He's more a movie star who plays more or less "Tom Cruise" in every movie. And of course he's pretty much a lowlife. "Vulgar" is one way to describe him.

But Betty isn't really the one to throw out the insult. She and Bogie have had a long career of hawking products. Blackglama furs was a big one for her, and Bogie's having died 40 years ago hasn't kept him from doing ads.

Betty has a feud going with Nicole Kidman. Supposedly it started when a reporter refered to Kidman as a legend when talking to Bacall, and Betty just couldn't abide that. So this is just another battle in the same war.

I get the feeling both Cruise and Bacall are prickly types who offend and are offended easily, but don't know if Kidman and Brooke Shields are the same way or if they just get caught in the crossfire when these "sacred monsters" quarrel.

That doesn't make psychiatry any less valid. Many great men have been agnostic. There are plenty of religious nuts in this world who need shrinks.

It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially,

This statement coming from a liberal movie star who does commericals for a department store here in Florida. It features her sitting in the back seat of a limo, going shopping. Lauren Bacall, you're a hollywood hypocrit.

I'm sure there were vulgar actors and actresses throughout time; however, I still don't believe that ALL people today are not worse in their behavior than in the 40's and 50's, that includes actors and actresses.

The great ones actually turn into and become someone else.

There are British actors that I have not recognized until the credits.
