My theory on why we are catching up with obesity figures is because of the supply of cheap food. I do not know if it is the case in the US but in Britain you can get a bag of 10 donuts from the supermarket for under 2.00 dollars, massive bag of chips (french fries) for a few pence and as for the value range (the one cheaper than the own brand range) they are full of fat, salt and preservatives but they are cheap.
The consumer has demanded cheap food but the quality and calories pay the cost.
