The mastermind of Hillary Clinton's successful 2000 Senate race is urging the Democratic Party's liberal wing not to be upset over her alliance with the moderate Democratic Leadership Council, assuring critics that Hillary is still a left-winger at heart.
"It's much more important to look at what she does and how she votes, and not that she has associated herself with the DLC," Harold Ickes told the Washington Times on Friday.
Ickes reminded that Bill Clinton also came under fire from party liberals for his more centrist rhetoric. But they stuck with him because "his record in totality was extraordinarily progressive."
Ickes was responding to complaints from liberals this week, who went wild after Mrs. Clinton's Monday speech to the DLC.
"By aligning herself with the DLC, it is pretty well guaranteed that there will be somebody running for the [2008 presidential] nomination to her left," said Roger Hickey, co-director of the liberal group Campaign for America's Future. "She is going to have to choose between the DLC and the progressive activist base of the party," he warned.
In fact, Mrs. Clinton has a 95 percent rating with the liberal group Americans for Democratic Action. The American Conservative Union, meanwhile, gave Clinton a zero rating for her 2004 Senate votes. Her career ACU rating is just 9.
Still, while trying to assure critics that Hillary hadn't wandered completely off the liberal reservation, Ickes took pains not to paint her into a radical corner.
"It's hard to characterize her as an extreme liberal," he insisted to the Times. "She has a lot of progressive and liberal support, but Hillary is moderate in many of her positions."
And that is suppose to reassure the liberals??
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh Lordy, Lordy...stick with ole hitlery and we're sure to have a communist nation by the time she's finished with us.
the b1tch has a heart?
She is VERY dangerous to this country .She MUST be stopped but I'm afraid many will fall for her game.
Hitlery may be trying to change her spots, but it ain't working. She, along with Kennedy, Kerry, Schumer, Boxer, and all the other moonbat senators, voted no on S.397, the bill to protect gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits.
Their are too many voters out there that only listen to what is said by a lying lawyer and not what they have and always will do. They encourage the uninformed to vote just like they try to find the stupidest jurors to litigate.
Oh wow Ikes thanks I won't forget, lol, lol, lol....
Ickes: Don't worry, fellow socialists, Hillary is faking her centrist views to try to fool the hayseed Red-staters to elect her President. Her ideals will result in a thousand year reign of progressive action, and 100 consecutive TEN YEAR PLAN successes. Stay with us and help us to keep the great secret.
Actually, that's exactly what it does.
Ickes is simply saying what everyone knows. Hillary will say whatever it takes to sell herself to non-leftwing wackos, BUT can be counted on to vote and perform to the far left.
He's just reassuring her base by telling them not to worry, she's lying to the country.
And both are false. Hillary! has no convictions whatsoever other than to get back into the White House.
Either way .. it doesn't help Hellary :0)
Hillary's record: lies and deceipt!
America will not be fooled again.
However, there are two things that can derail her relocation back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. 1) She can get brutalized (and it be well documented) by 'whomever' in the 2006 Senate race, and 2) the GOP puts up the Cheney/Rice ticket - which would be (IMHO) unbeatable.
There are just not enough "centrist" Democrats to allow HRC to beat out the wacko leftist favorite in the Dem primary. She would lose a fight against a Michael Moore Democrat by a large amount if they believe she has sold them out to move the middle. So, the key to a HRC run is to keep the leftists on board without a true primary opponent so she can get the nomination.
She is moving to the center too early to assure herself the Dem primary. She will be defeated in any case in a general election as long as the Republicans nominate a conservative.
Is this any great feat? Did it really take a "mastermind" to engineer Hillary Clinton's victory in 2000? She is the symbol of leftism running in one of the most leftist states in America. She could raise all the money she needed on a national scale.
In fact, I always thought she was a rather poor campaigner.
