FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Never mind officials voiding a $50 ticket for indecent exposure, or an explanation from county officials that a ranger who issued the citation to the breast-feeding mother was inexperienced.
Dorian Ryan said she wants an apology for what she called a "humiliating and degrading" experience.
"This isn't right. Women shouldn't be harassed for breast-feeding their children," Dorian Ryan said.
Colorado lawmakers agree. A law passed last year gives women the right to breast feed anywhere she's allowed to be in public.
Ryan, 43, was ticketed for indecent exposure July 14 when she breast fed her son at the Carter Lake swim beach in Larimer County. She was shielded from view by two umbrellas and a towel.
An inexperienced park ranger mistakenly issued the ticket, said Dan Rieves, manager of the Blue Mountain District, which oversees the beach. Park officials have voided the ticket.
Rieves, who has been in contact with Ryan, said a written apology would be sent Friday.
Example #1: If a man urinates on the sidewalk he creates an offensive puddle of bodily effluent which people can smell, which they can step in, and which presents a potential health hazard. I'm not only not "comfortable" with it, I think it's disgusting and I will make and obejection.
(BTW, I'm not talking about a male, shielded from view, urinating at the side of the Interstate. Sometimes that's a necessity, especially but not only for children, and it doesn't present any of the problems listed in #1.)
Example #2: If a man has a urinary catheter, quite hidden from view, and urinates into a little baggie strapped to his leg--- whether at a restaurant, walking out in public, or at the family Thanksgiving dinner--- I have no problem with that at all.
Modest breast-feeding, which is the only sort which has been defended on this thread, is comparable to Example #2.
Reductio ad adsurdum: if the woman wants to take a breast out while she's walking down a city street and milk it into the gutter, OK, I object to that, too. But sheesh. That's not what we're talking about.

I would be willing to bet my next paycheck that you don't announce to the Office Depot staff that it's lunchtime for the youngun, and whip your top off.
It could be goat milk. The stuff smells sour when it's fresh from the goat. Even my dad wouldn't touch it, and he's the type who when you wonder if the milk's gone bad will take a swig rather than sniff the bottle.

I was breast-fed, my sister was goat-milk-fed, and my brother got breast milk and formula.
My sister's three are all primarily breast-fed, but with formula for supplements (mostly when my brother-in-law is home with the girls).
It's a stupid point. Unless you're comfortable eating your food on a toilet.

I don 't trust the people who are concerned about the modesty of breast feeding women.Have any of you prudes considered what it is like to be a little baby wrapped up in a blanket on a day when the temperature has hit 110 degrees?
I had to nurse in Best Buy when the minikiki was 4 months old, because husband was taking his good old time shopping, and didn't listen to me when I said we needed to get home soon because she would be hungry in a bit. They were nice though, I was able to use a chair at customer service, turned it to face the wall, and nursed. The young girl at the customer service counter insisted on asking me a gazillion questions though...
I think he was a little "special". It was just me and my 13 month old shopping...

Oh , and your toilet analogy does not work either.Most restrooms are crowded and dirty. It is cruel of you to expect a little baby to eat in one. Go eat in one yourself.
You're claiming by noting that the equivalence of breastfeeding to men peeing is a "good point". It's not. The baby's eating. Folks eat and drink in public. That includes babies. They pee in the rest room, or use diapers. They don't eat in the rest room.
I hardly consider this a reasonable amount of modesty.
Ok how about this. Try nursing 6 babies successfully then we'll chat about how well breastfed babies do on an artificial schedule. Breastmilk is digested faster than formula therefore a breastfed infant actually eats more often than a formula fed infant. As the baby's milk supplies increase then they will nurse more often to boost supply. You do know the law of supply and demane right? Who do you think you are trying to tell me to put my child on a schedule? Do you presume to know how to raise my children better than I do? Do you presume to take away my rights to life LIBERTY and the pursuit of happiness? What about my God given right to feed my child the way HE intended?
Also for those of us who have or have observed a woman nursing (that knows what she is doing) once the baby is latched on there is really very little to see.
