Why don't they just use all cord blood that the parents don't want to keep? Very few can afford to store their child's own cord blood. Babies are born every day. It doesn't destroy anything.

Are the stem cells from blastocysts identical functionally to those in cord blood?

The really hard-nosed proponents are pushing embryonic stem cell research, not because of its *promise*, but to add further weight to the argument that human life does not begin at conception (or if it does, it is not worth protecting).
