Dems for Life Claims its Making Inroads with their party

Pro-Life Democrats think they’re making inroads in getting their party’s Chairman, Howard Dean, to establish an official relationship with Democrats for Life. Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) met with Dean and other Democrats about the recognition and said Dean is “is fully on board.” Ryan believes the chairman wants to make the party more inclusive and get away from being identified as the “pro-abortion party.”

“We are really making some headway within the Party. We have a meeting this week with Nancy Pelosi, Senator Reid is obviously pro-life himself so this issue is making great strides.”

Kristen Day with Democrats for Life also thinks Dean wants to ‘open the tent’ as a way of strengthening the party.

“We are just very encouraged right now. I think pro-life Democrats haven’t felt part of the Democratic Party for a long time and it’s just a very positive development”

But outside party conclaves there is a measure of skepticism. Carol Tobias is with National Right to Life.

“We certainly would welcome the Democratic Party changing its position on abortion. We would certainly welcome pro-abortion Democrats becoming pro-life Democrats. We do have a concern with helping pro-life democrats if the goal is to put Democrats back in control of the House and Senate.”

She says the majority of Democrats are pro-abortion and that creates concern for getting pro-life legislation through any Congress they control.

Demorats supporting the non-voting defenseless people. What gives? Will they be labeled DINOs?

Isn't Harry "the body" Reid for the destroying of embryonic stem cells? How can he be pro-life if this is the case?

Reid signed a letter from 58 Senators to the President

Dear Mr. President:

We write to urge you to expand the current federal policy concerning embryonic stem cell research....

Well, I suppose this may be good news on the abortion front. But bad news politically, as this will keep the Demo raft afloat.

Until now, people who are Anti-American, anti-freedom, and anti-personal responsibility, but didn't support the violent dismemberment of human babies didn't really have a party.....

Pro-life in name only , PLINO.
Pro-life is about working to save the unborn, the DEMS as a party are NOT. NOW and NARAL own that party and the PLINOs may be welcome to vote for whomever the Dems run, but the policy of the Democrat party will NOT change.
PS. I am NOT often a betting woman, but I would bet on this one.

Exactly. This is another page from the 92 Clinton playbook, to paraphrase hillary in 92, "bill clinton will end welfare as we know it".

You got the "normal Republican red" states and the "baby-killer blue" dem states.

The dems will only take this so far before the feminazi whackos bring them to heel. Hillie may fake some rational moves but the dems still murder children as a party plank.

Do I see the beginning of a split in the Democrat party or is this just another example of their smoke and mirror's?

When the Dems stop attacking Republicans for being pro-life, THEN I would believe that they will actually welcome pro-lifers into their party.

If there are any pro-lifers in the Dem party they should turn over their secret camouflage formula to the Defense Dept. Our guys & gals in Iraq would be totally invisible if they had that stuff.

This is smoke and mirrors at their most obscene. Respect for the sanctity of life is the issue which I cannot compromise on, with one exception: the death penalty for convicted murderers. My reasons for that exception can be discussed later. However, I can say that I am not as staunchly an advocate of the death penalty as I was five years ago. Errors in our judicial system have cast doubt on many cases, and I much prefer life sentences under austere conditions. One cannot dispute the differences between innocent human life vs. the actions of killers.

The Democrat Party is the party that places "quality of life" in an exalted position over the sanctity of life. From such a stance come the abominations of abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.

Pope John Paul II taught us a wonderful lesson as he grew more frail by the day: all life is precious, and a gift from God.

When will true pro-lifers understand that one cannot be a Democrat, and be pro-life? It's an oxymoron, just like a pro-choice Catholic.

In all my lurking on DU, I have never seen anything but vitriol thrown at pro-lifers.

Their idea of an eloquently expressed political statement is:

F-YOU! F-BUSH! BUSH LIED, PEOPLE DIED! CLINTON IS GOD!
