I thought it was a thumbs up, too, because of CAFTA. I only got a quick glance, though.

It sure looked like a middle finger in the stills I've seen, although I don't believe Bush would do that (as much as he might want to!)
To: VictoryGal
I think he was cracking a little joke. I guess I don't get 'journalist' humor.

er, that should've said "than a middle finger" rather than "than in the video"

Scott, last night on the Tonight Show, Jay Leno, who apparently is subbing for Johnnie. Huh? Really. Leno doesn't "sub" for anyone. This is twisted.
To: TheOtherOne
That line creamed out. "Subbing for Johnnie"!
When did this take place, 1992?

It was funny even though it was a thumbs up.

If Leno was subbing for Johnny the then President they're talking about must've been Clinton.

It's the thumb. Make a thumbs-up with your right hand and twist it around; eventually you'll see an angle that will produce a much closer result to the picture than in the video. Then that is one unusually long thumb.

Noting the title of that image... Wonkette must have short stubby digits. My thumb looks just like that.

As a baby George Bush liked to watch the evening news. Here he is pictured as he watches Dan Rather.

Watch the video frame by frame. As the hand twists, it becomes quite obvious that it is his thumb.
To: VictoryGal
If you look closely, you will see that it is a thumbs up.
DARN IT ALL! I bet he feels like giving the media the bird (as do most of us).
To: Antonello
It took about 10 viewings, but it looks like a thumbs up now.
