In a case we are following on the Missing/Exploited Blog 8 year old has been found safe in Mexico, the man who had been living with her and her mother took her and all her belongings. He is now awaiting extradition to the US.
While this Amber Alert got little to no attention from the MSM, many blogs put up the alert as soon as the Alert was issued. When we got to 2 (Utah and Nevada) active Amber Alerts I encouraged many to email Fox, CNN and MSMBC to at least get the stories on their website. Now, within 1 hour of the news coming out of the finding of Lydia, it made a Fox news update. If the Amber Alerts are not covered by the media isn’t their effectiveness limited? I have been told the Amber Alert is a local tool for missing cases, my opinion is in 4 hours after a child goes missing it is probably not a local story anymore. How many state lines can someone cross in 4 hours?

TIJUANA – A convicted sex offender was arrested and the 8-year-old Nevada girl he is suspected of kidnapping was found in “good shape” at a shelter in Ensenada, police said Friday.
Fernando Aguero, 47, was arrested in the afternoon and was being moved to Tijuana where police planned an evening news conference, authorities said.
Aguero is suspected of kidnapping Lydia Bethany-Rose Rupp, 8, from her home July 22 in Fernley, Nev., near Reno.
“She is saying that she is fine,” said Rodolfo Luna, a liaison officer with Mexico’s State Preventive Police. “She appears to be in good shape, with no complaints.”

I'm getting a conflicting story from Aruba as regards the FBI's ability to question Joran Van der Sloot. And that item was not mentioned in tonight's news brief - linked second above. I'll continue to look into this as I know the first source is reliable. I apologize if there has been some miscommunication.
For now, I can only conclude it's up in the air. Developing.
The use of van der Sloot's samples has been blocked because prosecutors failed to clarify what his DNA samples would be compared with.
In the case of van der Sloot's friend, the court said there isn't enough evidence to warrant using the tests. The court said the prosecution could request new DNA samples from van der Sloot if it has documents clarifying what would be used in the comparison.
Additionally, while the judge is said to have ruled that it's legal to transport Joran from the prison to the Police Station for questioning due to a lack of interrogation facilities, including video, at the prison - the suspect is said to be using his right to silence, insisting he has no more to say.
Update: Currently, it's my understanding that while the FBI has been invited in "in full capacity," there may be a ruling next week which could prevent their conclusions being used as evidence in court. Seems like a bit of a mixed bag, but that could also be a workable solution for all.

Concerned with the discrepancies reported here, I reached out to multiple, reliable sources in an effort to attempt to understand how such a disparity of facts could appear within a case drawing so much of America's, as well as Aruba's attention.
What I discovered was both surprising and disappointing, to say the least.
Absolutely reliable sources, also confirmed to be in a position to know, suggest that Private Investigator T. J. Ward appears to have had no solid basis for his claims of having an eyewitness who identified the car of Deepak Kalpoe near the area of the Racquet Ball Club and pertinent neighborhood at some point soon after the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
In speaking with multiple sources the image which emerged was of an individual who is charging the family of Natalee Holloway a sum said to be approximately $125 an hour for efforts which seem to yield significantly more success in thrusting the Private Investigator into the limelight, as opposed to resolving the disappearance of the lovely young Alabama girl.
When questioned as to what might be his possible motivations, reliable sources who have interacted with the private investigator behind the scenes claim that his primary goals seem to be client growth and self-promotion.
While Natalee Holloway continues to go missing, some claim to have heard Ward bragging about his almost nightly television appearances and apparently he has already begun to talk about a potential book deal.
Latest reports from an additional source indicate that Ward is now claiming to be going back to Aruba and may have the case solved in as little as a few days. As far as obstacles to his progress he seems to primarily blame the lack of co-operation on the part of Arubans in helping him gain information.
Some sources on the island insist that he has likely had every courtesy extended to him in that regard and they seem shocked at what he is reporting to audiences watching American Television.

AMMAN, July 30 (Reuters) - Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was attacked by an unidentified man during his appearance at a court hearing in Baghdad on Thursday, his defence team said on Saturday.
The team, which has an office in the Jordanian capital Amman, said in a statement that the man attacked Saddam and the two exchanged blows. The statement did not say if Saddam was hurt.

As someone that has lived in Aruba, over 20 years, I will answer some questions. (I am American by the way)It is not that Jossy Mansur is disliked, but Papiamento (Diario in particular) newspapers tend to be a bit sensationalist and don't always check their facts. The English newspapers are more circumspect and so if you want to see what’s going on, look towards the Aruba Today, it is online; they will be more accurate. Jossy MANSUR is also quite political, and has his own agenda, and he is working against the political party that is in power right now, so his paper will do its best to make it look bad. I am not saying I disagree with him, it has its faults, but it has done some good things, too, like any political administration. People tend to be very party oriented here, which is shame, because as everywhere, there are good and bad candidates, and both get in when the party gets the majority of the votes.
It is an election year, so the Natalee Holloway issue can be used to sink the MEP (party in power) ship, but change will likely come, and not only because of this issure.
I also believe that he is enjoying the limelight, as did Mr. Ward, Steven Croes (who is a nebbish at worst, but has some notoriety on the island now, something beneficial if you want to make a living as a DJ)
Mr. Mansur is well respected by many, but you must take his reporting with a grain of salt. Also you must take what is getting filtered to you as appearing in Diario from other sources with some skepticism, as in the report that the “The case is nearly solved, Natalee’s remains found.” The Headline was actually “Is the case solved???? Are Natalee’s remains found???” The removal of a few question marks makes all the difference in the world, don’t you think?

As for the TJ Ward business, IMO, this guy is full of crap. If he's telling people that he can come to Aruba not knowing anyone and getpeople to give information they haven't given before, he is jiving you all. Some peole may be afraid of the police here, but that is because they are wrong doers.
Any decent person here has police as their neighbors and social contacts,and the police have their network of contacts. If anyone saw something important, they would have told the police long ago. No one is afraid to say if they saw the boys or not. The VDS are not a wealthy or powerful family, when Joran was initially arrested there were locals jeering him when he was taken to jail, happy to see the case solved, figuring he would get what he deserves.
Some now have doubts because he has not cracked, and still maintains his innocence. Right now everyone here is as frustrated as you are there.

Before I crash have you been reading all the "blame Natalee's family" replies on RWV? - Last night it was loaded down with a bunch of crap. Not sure if Dan has cleaned it up or not as of yet.
There are several distinct "THEMES" that run concurrently throughout the missives that would identify the decor themes of The hotels involved (lobbies, resturaunts or casino decor) and specific objects within.
The WESTERN (decor) THEME: cowboys, indians, fort, teepees;
The "BABALONIAN" (decor) THEME: lions, palace, gods
The MIDEVIEL (decor)THEME:knights, swords, lances
OUTDOOR LANDMARKS NEAR NATALEE'S HIDING PLACE:
birds,path,arch,keystone,door,the KEY to that door,grass,no grains of sand,field, lions(I believe statues),MAZE
There may also be a room themed with histoical Aruban decor hence use of ARAWAKS.

I have a big ground photo of the Wyndham winding path with many offshoot paths(tributaries); definately maze-like. Think maze can refer to both the rave joint and this outside area; numerous outbldgs, jungle like. Legendary caged birds there, a well known bird keeper. Is there an archway? a keystone? Lion statues? Lances pointing the way to the hidden door?
