Arabs Shouldn't Have to Apologize (Editorial)

Mansour El-Kikhia: Arabs shouldn't have to apologize

I am fed up with the ceaseless requests by columnists, religious personalities and other American public figures for Arabs and Muslims to apologize for terrorist acts committed by thugs and murderers in the name of Islam.

As far as I am concerned, the final straw came a couple of weeks ago when the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, paid for a national advertisement repudiating terrorism in the name of Islam.

As soon as the advertisement was broadcast on America's media, I read a column by one of the nation's most ardent Islam-phobic columnists, Cal Thomas, now also a FOX News personality, which plowed into CAIR's reconciliation efforts. Long before 9-11, Thomas' writings were full of venom for Arabs and Muslims. He represents a despicable and ignorant attitude that, unfortunately, a sizable segment of America has come to share. There is nothing American Muslims can do to satisfy this group short of packing up and leaving the United States.

I disagree with what CAIR did, and I also disagree with this groveling and begging for forgiveness, as though American Arabs and Muslims are responsible for those atrocities. CAIR knows better, and those running it know that Islam rejects all acts of violence outside self-defense. Arab and Muslim Americans are responsible for neither the twin towers nor the London subway bombings, and as Americans they should never accept responsibility for actions they did not instigate, commit or condone.

Furthermore, in spite of the fact they are constantly condemned for one thing or another, they — like other Americans — are victims of these murderers. Does anyone think they are pleased to have their movements and telephone conversations monitored or that coercive and freedom-depriving laws are tailored for them? Does anyone in his or her right mind really believe that being an Arab American or a Muslim is pleasant in America today?

The United States has lost 3,000 souls to terrorist thugs, but that figure is miniscule compared to the 60,000 Algerians or the 25,000 Iraqis who also have died at their hands. These thugs don't differentiate between Muslim and non-Muslim, Arab and non-Arab when they plant a bomb or enter a village at night and murder everyone.

It is rejection of U.S. and British policies in the Middle East, not Islam, that has promoted terrorism against America. And for the benefits of those who do not know, 95 percent of Middle Easterners are Muslims. Hence, it is only natural that those opposing the United States and Britain in the region would be Muslims. In India, they would have been Hindu; in Latin America or Northern Ireland, they would have been Catholic.

More important, it was the British and the United States that drew first blood. The Middle East didn't come to America or go to Britain; rather, America and Britain went to the Middle East. Both powers used and abused regimes, toppling some and keeping others in power. They never thought that the people they were helping suppress were human beings with needs, beliefs and emotions. They didn't care as long as their interests were served.

America's experience in the Middle East is no different from its Southeast Asia stint, and look at the mess it left in that region.

However, while the calamity of Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea might be rationalized by the Cold War or even a domino theory, there is nothing to rationalize the invasion of Iraq except ideological stupidity. The United States illegally invaded and decimated a country that did not threaten its security and, in the process, unleashed one of the most vile and ruthless insurgencies the region has ever seen. And as it did in Vietnam, when the going got tough, it is planning to pull out. The result will be a protracted instability and turmoil that no country in the region can escape.

Future turmoil in the region is exactly what the instigators of the Iraq invasion have planned all along. They had made their desire for strife in the Middle East known long before the invasion of Iraq. Yet they underestimated the consequences of their lunacy and set into motion processes and events that will make the United States less secure and threaten the lives of Americans for many years to come.

Funny. Written Arabic didn't exist during the time of Mohammad. It was probably "recorded" in Aramaic and later translated to Arabic.

At any rate, the "religion" was invented by Mo to slake his limitless thirst for sex, power, and control.

If you don't join, they enslave or kill you. If you try to leave, they kill you. If you die killing a non moslem, you get to go to Allah's big whorehouse in the sky with a free token for 72 "virgins". Brilliant. No wonder There are over 1.2 billion slaves of Allah world wide.

Islam is like a giant roach motel. Roaches check in but they don't check out.

Wrong answer. Read Bin Laden's Fatwah. It IS being done in the name of Islam.

What is a "dirt nap"?
I never heard that expression before.

6 feet deep...
Grass growing on the surface.
And permanent.

You are in the U.S. now. Over here, whole groups of people based on ethnicity or religion are expected to apologize for acts committed in the name of their heritage or faith. It's called 'Political Correctness' and white men have been having to apologize for slavery, for colonization of North America, for oppressing women's rights, for segregations and a whole host of things that, as individuals, were not even alive to be involved with! You mohammedians need to get your collective act together and join the civilized, politically correct world and learn how to live with 'collective guilt' like the rest of us have had to put up with.

What is needed is for Muslim leaders to produce statements TO THE TERRORISTS, not anyone else, that "You are not one of us - we hope you turn from your ways or die soon", WITHOUT ANY QUALIFACTION. To be honest, this hasn't happened yet.

Right on. Too many of these "condemnations" of terrorism are just weak cover for more respewing of the Terrorist propaganda lines. No qualifications, no excuses, no more equivilencies. Terrorism is the barbaric wanton murder of unarmed, undefended civilians and it's practitioners must be extermininated.

Don't laugh.
You don't have to understand it.

I was suspended for 40 hours once for "racist" remarks against muslims.

h,
I never thought about that, the timeline for written Arabic. That's interesting.

As for enslaving or killing, it depended on the time and place. I mean, there were cities with thriving Jewish or Christian quarters; those folks were upstanding members of their communities. They were just taxed beyond what muslim subjects were.

Like, for example, surrendering male children to be trained as the sultan's elite infantry...

The fact that the Left has not only re-wrote the history books but has perpetuated this lie in defense of terrorism makes these people as dangerous as those who are attacking us.

Yep. We are so busy being "tolerant of diversity" we seem willing to over look that a good chunk of our "elite" is more then willing to serve as the propaganda arm of mass murderers

h,

Something to consider, based on this statement:
If you don't join, they enslave or kill you. If you try to leave, they kill you. If you die killing a non moslem, you get to go to Allah's big whorehouse in the sky with a free token for 72 "virgins". Brilliant. No wonder There are over 1.2 billion slaves of Allah world wide.

Abraham talked to God. Abraham was willing to sacrifice for the sake of God. Moses talked to God. Moses gave up the soft life for his people and for God. Jesus talked to God, and Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for His people and for God. Hell, even Gautama gave up the life of a prince to be an ascetic holy man....and I don't buy a word of Buddhism!

Mohammed supposedly talked to the Archangel Gabriel. Mohammed is supposedly the greatest prophet. Now, if that were the case, wouldn't God Himself talk to Mohammed, instead of sending His secretary to do the talking? Sounds kind of fishy (and phony) to me. Next, what about Mohammed doesn't fit in with the previous prophets/holy men/Son of God? Sacrifice. Mohammed didn't give up a thing.....he killed, robbed, raped, looted, pillaged, baby diddled...basically violated all the tenets of a civilized society. What did he promise his followers? Jesus promised us happiness beyond human comprehension in the presence of the Father. Mohammed's paradise is endless sex and debauchery. Jesus emphasized sacrifice and living a good life.....Mohammed emphasized material gain and greed.

Who is it who tempts man with material goods, power and the pleasures of the flesh? It sure ain't God. It's Satan. I submit, that if Mohammed did indeed have a preternatural experience, it was the Devil himself who spoke to Mohammed, and that Mohammed's followers are indeed, followers of Satan. Read the Bible. Read about Satan's temptations and compare them to Islam. You might draw a similar conclusion as I did.

Something to ponder on.

If it doesn't soon, I might be convinced that the other side is right.

You are a genius among dimbulbs. At least you entertain the notion that you might be wrong.

Wish I could say the same about Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt!

"It is rejection of U.S. and British policies in the Middle East, not Islam, that has promoted terrorism against America."

So?? If you reject the policies of a country, its o.k. to go out and indiscriminately blow up civilians in those countries??

Why is this creep in MY Country? Who let him in??

It IS incumbent upon "moderate" Muslims to distance themselves from random acts of violence committed against innocent civilians of whatever nation.

If this lunatic really thinks the Iraqis are better off with a murdering, nutchering sadist like Saddam Hussein, that's his opinion, and I suppose he's entitled to it.

But when he attempts to excuse what happened on 9-11, in Madrid and in London, among many other palces, as legitimate acts of war, he has crossed the line.

Further, as a Muslim, he must know that the political and the religious are inextricably intertwined in a fashion not found in the west since the Middle Ages.

Or maybe I can distill it all down to one question: why can't I worship at the Hagia Sophia?

Because it's a museum?
