They watch an historical drama and believe it is history. They watch a TV cop show and believe that every cop out there engages in firefights with bad guys armed with automatic weapons on a regular basis. They watch a war movie and believe all GIs are baby killing psychos.
Or they watch the news and believe what the reporters are telling them is the truth.
