BUSH'S BID FOR BOLTON - (author recommends appointing Bolton tomorrow)
NY POST.COM ^ | JULY 28, 2005 | Editor

Posted on 07/28/2005 8:10:25 PM PDT by CHARLITE

In June, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid promised an up-or-down vote, but only if the White House opened sensitive files to Senate rummaging.

The White House refused — and quite appropriately so.

And so the game drags on.

Well, again, it's time to bring it to a halt.

Rumors abound in Washington that Bush will take the opportunity of a congressional recess to put Bolton in the U.N. in time for September's General Assembly convocation.

The so-called recess appointment would keep Bolton on the job until February 2007 — and who knows what would happen then?

Sure, such a course constitutes parliamentary sleight-of-hand, but so what?

That's precisely what Harry Reid and his crowd have been engaged in for months now.

So, politically, turn-about is fair play.

Substantively, John Bolton is fully qualified to represent America at the U.N.

President Bush wants him there.

So President Bush should put him there. Friday would be fine.

Since this article was published, there is some potentially "bad news" which I heard on Fox cable, to the effect that the White House has confirmed an "error" in Bolton's sworn statements; - has to do with if he has ever given information to an intelligence officer in the last 5 years. Apparently, he answered, "No" when the correct reply should have been "yes." What kind of hay are the Democrats going to try to make out of that red herring, is what I would like to know.

My understanding is that Bolton was questioned by someone from the State Department's Office of the Inspector General about the faked Niger documents.

Actually, Bolton was asked if he'd been interviewed as part of any investigation in the past five years and he "incorrectly" answered no. He now remembers being interviewed by the Inspector General's office about the Iraq-Niger uranium investigation in July of 2003.

Mo1 had posted on a thread this afternoon that the State Dept. had said that Bolton did not testify....so I am confused.

When did the White House say that he did, and make a mistake? Was it tonight?

I just don't see how this is a problem. At least in real life.

Stuff happens and it would be really easy to forget something like this. If this is all they have, I dare them to check into their own records.

Special report did report that Bolton didn't testify before the Grand Jury ... which is so far still true

But ... then later this report came out

Seems that Bolton did make a mistake on this form .. well kind of

Seems he was question by the State Departments Inspector General .. but it wasn't related to the Wilson - Plame case

Yeah, but you know if Biden has proof that Bolton even said the word Niger in his whole life, that would be enough in Biden's mind to try him for treason!!!

I pray that Bush makes a recess appointment the second that Frist calls for the Senate to close tomorrow afternoon!

If Bush DOES make a recess appointment on Friday afternoon, it will make Biden and other dems so mad, it will keep some heat off of Rove and Roberts for at least a little of the August recess...

And Bush can go to his ranch and ride his bike, and laugh and laugh...

The Republicans need to start acting like the MAJORITY PARTY.

We got the HOUSE.

We got the SENATE.

We got the Presidency.

At 4:30 PM. Eastern time....John Edwards...Live cspan 3

at 9:30 AM Eastern time...Jamie Gorelick...

Wonder what ole Biden is gonna talk about...and isn't it odd that a group that calls itself the "Constitution" Society would have all LIBS speaking...whom the constitution is a "living, breathing, changeable, progressive, document"? blech

I'm so fed up with our weak senators. All the dims do is obstruct. Bush should just say Bolton's my man and put an end to this farce staged by the dimwits.

This has to be the most ridiculous display I have ever seen.

Were the dims always like this? When I was on the inside with them I paid no notice. Now, every time I turn around they sink lower and lower on the evolution table.

I bet it will that of which we speak.

Bush ought to blind side him and declare Bolton the first thing in the morning. That would make Bidens grandstanding a moot point. We could watch them twist and squirm and bellyache like petulant little girls all weekend. Wouldn't that make for a great way to spend the weekend?

Well, it will be on c-span 3 all day for all to see and hear, what this "fine?" organization stands for...
