Halsey's reputation has suffered some. While he may have been exactly what the Navy needed in 1942 in the Solomons, by 1944 he was out of his league. Ozawa totally suckered him at Leyte Gulf and only his popularity at home kept him from being sacked for the debacle of running his fleet into not just one but two typhoons that caused tremendous damage to the fleet. I doubt Halsey will ever get a carrier.

Well, you're probably right. And in any case, I've always thought Spruance was the better Admiral.
