Kerouac's politics are quite complex. He grew up in a blue collar family, idolized FDR in his youth, and hated both Ike and Lyndon Johnson. He was a patriot, who loved his country for all of its shortcomings. Kerouac HATED the hippies and his pal Ginsberg's embrace of them. He also remained very close with his Parish priest in Lowell despite the fact that he didn't exactly live the Christian lifestyle.
The most Right Wing member of the beat generation was, ironically, William S. Burroughs. Kerouac and Ginsberg both recounted that when Burroughs wasn't shooting up he was ranting and raving about the evils of communism, liberalism and the Civil Rights movement. He even supported Goldwater.
