A Newport News woman, who police said abandoned her 4-year-old son on the shoulder of the Capital Beltway and then bumped him with her car as she drove off Tuesday night, was charged with felony child neglect and hit and run, Virginia State Police said.
Channoah Alece Green, 22, was arrested later that night about 90 miles away after she was involved in a two-car crash on Interstate 95 in Hanover County just north of Richmond, said Corinne Geller, a state police spokeswoman.
Green, who was charged with reckless driving in that incident, is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County court today on the charges involving her son, Geller said.
"He was trying to get back in the vehicle when she struck him, and then she drove off," Geller said.
Police are still investigating, but Sgt. C.F. Kincaid said the child explained that his mother was "upset with him."
"He wasn't sitting down [in the car] like he was supposed to," he said.
Kincaid said the boy, who was abandoned near Lee Highway in Fairfax County, appeared in "very good spirits" when he arrived at Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was treated for bruises and cuts to his face that appeared to be scrapes from the gravel shoulder.
The preschooler was placed with Fairfax County Child Protective Services, police said. Geller said police were withholding his name, citing an ongoing investigation.
......The incident is the latest of several involving mothers allegedly mistreating their children in cars.
In Green's case, a driver on the Beltway called police about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday and said she had found the 4-year-old boy wandering on the side of the interstate near the Lee Highway overpass.

Jesse Jackson is almost outraged
While I would never ever do this, and do not condone it, I am going to print and save this article for my kids just so they will always consider the possibility that I just may do it if they push me too far. lol ;)
Not sure if it's BS or not, but somebody called into the Elliot in the Morning show (broadcast on DC101 up in Washington and 102.1 down here) who said he was one of the Hanover County EMTs that responded to the accident this "lady" caused near Ashland last night. He said she was totally frozen behind the wheel, didn't move, didn't say anything, never acknowledged their presence, never let go of the wheel or took the car out of gear, never flinched even when they were busting out car windows all around her, to get to her, secure the car, and get her out of the vehicle.
Well, here's hoping she gets a very long time to be catatonic in prison.
And yeah, I know exactly where you're talking about since I used to live up there...man, I didn't feel safe the last time I drove a 4400-pound pickup truck through there, I can't even imagine being a little kid on the shoulder of 495, alone, after "mommy" smacked him in the face, dumped him out of the car, and drove off. Wow.

I'd like to know how many times my dad threatened to do this. Never did. In retrospect, considering some of my behavior, he probably would have liked to!
The 23 year old mom is probably making it with a 40 to 40+ year old guy.
Prayers going up that he never remembers the poor excuse he has for a mother.
You're mixing up the two stories. In the first story the mother is 22 and the boy is 4. In the second story, a 7-year-old boy, was left by his 46-year-old mother. HIS SISTER, who called to report the incident, is 23.
My mom threatened to throw my paddle ball out the window if I didn't stop playing with it in the car. That was about 50 years ago and I still remember it sailing out the window.
As screwed up as the system is the real shame here is that since there was no actual physical abuse involved in all liklihood the child will be back in the loving arms of "mother of the year" in short order. God forbid the court should break up a family unit, dysfunctional or not.
An apt label for this ping.
"Channoah Alece Green, 22, was arrested "
I guess I better not ask the race question....
But Lori sounds like white trash, so it balances out.
'nuff said....
She was green?
How does a name imply bad parenting? It knows no bounds.
I wonder where the fathers of these boys are.
Thank you, that is ALWAYS my first thought on stories like these....
