There are innumerable memorials to MLK. Why spend $10M on another one? Oh, that's right. . .so Byrd can do something superficial to help his image.

"Sheets" Byrd was up all night burning the midnight crosses to come up with this idea.

Roger Hedgecock (substitute host for Rush) made a good point about this yesterday: since MLK's activism was done while he was a minister, and we are erecting a monument to commemorate his activism, how can we justify putting this on public land? This violates the liberal idea of seperation of church and state. Where's the ACLU? Shouldn't they be filing a lawsuit to block this?

Standards for greatness in the Democrat Party.
It has been so long since Teddy Kennedy took a woman's life that he has forgotten her name.
Bobby Byrd cannot remember the last time he burned a cross.

It's to bad that (Republican) Johnny Ramone is no longer with us. I bet he would have given permission to use the Ramone's song "The KKK Took My Baby Away" in an anti-Byrd commercial...
Seriously, I think that the way to use this issue against Byrd is not just to say, "Byrd was in the Klan" but to juxtapose his current Martin Luther King eulogizing persona against his Klan past and ask the questions, who is the real Robert Byrd? Is there a real Robert Byrd? Make him out to be a flip flopper, like Kerry. He'll have a hard time wriggling out of that one.
