Tinfoil hat time...

Well, since you have set the rules... :)

Why are the Western nations acting like they want this conflict to bring them down?

Is it just multiculturalism gone haywire? Or is is a "Phoenix" scenario they're looking for?

Perhaps it's because the leaders of those Western nations are more interested in and so focused on completing their own agendas for consolidation of their own mastery over their own subjects, err... citizens, that they're either blind to or fatally underestimating the threat?

Cultural death wish?

Yes.

Boy, am I glad I'm such a redneck uncultured lout. I knew it was bound to be good for something one day.

That’s not an option here. Madrid and London — along with other events such as the murder of Theo Van Gogh — are, in essence, the opening shots of a European civil war. You can laugh at that if you wish, but the Islamists’ most often-stated goal is not infidel withdrawal from Iraq but the re-establishment of a Muslim caliphate living under Sharia that extends to Europe; and there’s a lot to be said for taking these chaps at their word and then seeing whether their behaviour is consistent.

Wake up Europe! How many civilians have to be murdered before the Islama-whackos are taken seriously????

Thanks Pokey!

Typical Steyn: spot-on, as usual.

....became an Islamist radical while living on welfare.... Instead, Tony Blair pays Islamic fundamentalists in London to stay at home, fester and plot.

Idle hands, devil's workshop.

Exactly! And it's the Democrats who want to treat terrorism (and the GITMO "terror suspects") as a criminal matter. All that stands between the GITMO terrorists and freedom is one liberal judge.

>>A ‘criminal’ approach gives terrorists all the rights of criminals, and between British and European ‘human rights’ that’s quite a bundle.<<

Who keeps the racial pots boiling? Who promotes, no insists upon, political correctness and multiculturalism? Who divides women from men? Who keeps the poor in poverty with programs supposedly designed to get them out of it but is really just an extension of big government?

Very astute observations! I find that whole effort at dividing women from men especially repugnant. The Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas case virtually assured that men are prohibited from treating women the same way that guys are treated (can't offend Miss Fluffy's delicate ears with a dirty joke, can't use direct language when speaking, have to use pc bs. It set back man-woman relations by years if not decades. And as a woman, I resent that. And I resent the implication that as a woman, I can't handle difficult situations without running crying to a government agency to "Make him act nice!". (As you can tell, this is one of my pet peeves.)

That’s why I regretfully have to disagree with the editor of this great publication in his prescription of the current situation which appeared in these pages a week or two back under the headline ‘Just don’t call it war’. As you’ll have gathered, the boss objects to the language of ‘war, whether cultural or military.... Last week’s bombs were placed not by martyrs nor by soldiers, but by criminals.’

So much PC makes me sick. Our leftist friends object to the use of words such as war, and terrorists. I'm sure the “insurgents,” “militants,” and “martyrs” of today will become the “bomb experts” of the future.

He writes great articles. I subscribe to a magazine from western Canada called The Western Standard, and his editorial on the back page is the first thing I read every time it comes in the mail.

There are some with what I call a "Nero" complex. They're willing to destroy in order to rebuild according to their own design.

I love the way he sprinkles a little French in his articles. It's so . . . I don't know -- Canadian. LOL.
