Senator Questions Bolton Role in CIA Leak Probe (Biden)
Fox News ^ | 7-27-05

WASHINGTON — A State Department official said Wednesday that John Bolton (search)(search), President Bush's nominee to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, does not need to change his response to a Senate Foreign Relations Committee (search) questionnaire despite questions about the answer's accuracy.

Sen. Joe Biden, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that conducted confirmation hearings on Bolton, had inquired earlier in the day as to whether the undersecretary cooperated with a grand jury investigating the leak of a CIA agent's identity.

Biden, who led the Democratic filibuster last month against Bolton, faxed a letter on Wednesday to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (search) asking whether a media report last week was correct when it said Bolton was called to testify before the grand jury in the CIA leak case.

Before he was nominated, Bolton served as the State Department's undersecretary for arms control and international security since 2001. His nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has been held up by Senate Democrats for months. They argue Bolton is ill-mannered and hot-tempered, making him unsuitable for the top U.S. diplomatic post at the international body.

Democrats have also insisted that they want to see early drafts of Bolton's House testimony on Syria delivered two years ago, as well as the names of 36 individuals listed in National Security Agency intercepts that Bolton had requested and been permitted to view.

"I write to request that you or the nominee inform the committee whether Mr. Bolton did, in fact, appear before the grand jury, or whether he has been interviewed or otherwise asked to provide information by the special prosecutor or his staff in connection with this matter, and if so, when that occurred," Biden wrote in the letter to Rice.

Don't these liberals ever give up? It is astonishing to me that every comment is an attack or an accusation.

He He, I thought for a second that the moonbats were trying to pull Bolton into the Rove/Plame fantasy.

You know that Karl Rove and George W. Bush must be behind this conspiracy.

Never fear! As long as IMAO is on the job, the mainstream media can't win... http://www.imaopodcast.com/podcast/IMAO-July25.mp3

I wonder if these are Biden's words, or just more plagiarism?

"Don't these liberals ever give up? It is astonishing to me that every comment is an attack or an accusation."

And this is something that Democrats have fomented for decades, with the help of their media brethren. The seriousness of the accusation is actually more important than the substance...or facts, of the supposed crime. The same people who were unwilling to convict Clinton with a plethora of evidence, now want to hang Rove without any.

When information is revealed by a Democrat, the perpetrator is a Whistleblower; when it's a Republican, s/he is a leaker...with all the negative connotations attached to it. If Rove were a Democrat, you can bet your *ss that Plame and Wilson's role in this charade would've been exposed as the media would've made them, their motives and their friends, front-page stories.

I'm still amazed at the obvious double-standards that they are permitted to operate under...thanks to the media.

This "controversy" is not a mere diversionary strawman, it's an entire moldy haystack. What a petty exercise by self-serving politicians and what a pathetic waste of taxpayers' investment by their country's governing representatives.

ADVOCATE FOR TERM LIMITS! Diminish the monarchy of career politicians.

The Commie wing of the DemocRAT party is losing it more and more everyday. Will somebody please tell Chia Joe that Valerie Plame was NOT a covert CIA spook serving overseas. Come on Joe. Isn't it time for you to go "spend more time with the family?" You've become a giant pain in the @ss to the American people.

When Biden thinks he has something to lose by running his mouth, he will stop running his mouth. There's no downside to him from his shoveling excrement.
