Actually Boston has existed as a separate city-state all its own for a long time now.
Ask anyone who works on Beacon Hill, and they don't even know the names of the towns more than 15 miles beyond the city limits.
LOL, so true. I have relatives in the suburbs there. The Boston elite seem to think they're some kind city-state, an empire of their own, a kind of socialist model held up prominently, proudly for the world to admire. The only thing they need to know about the 'outlying areas' is whether or not the taxes have been fully levied and paid. Oh, and I guess, how soon will these outlying areas become part of the great city state by adopting the nanny state model set forward as a shining example to them.

The attitudes seems a lot like here in New Zealand, Canada, or in the mother country, Britain. No wonder why our politics here is likewise dominated by feel-good leftism.
