rather distressing...guess one should not respond when asked if your views differ from the sender...only real solace is that the culture of Universities will probably change as the students who come through become for conservative and work into the academic ranks.

She sends spam, perhaps even porno-spam (depending on the contents of the play). He says "don't send this stuff to me". He's the one that gets in trouble. Lovely.
Of course some here will consider him guilty because of his first name.

Of course some here will consider him guilty because of his first name I noticed it at first. Weird name that's for sure. I just don't see how he is the one to blame here ... oh wait, he mentioned the "G" word (G*D) and some people find that repulsively offensive. Unbelievable!
BTW: Why do you put "-Eric" on the bottom of your posts? We know who sent it!

March 7: William Patterson Univ Women's Studies chair, Arlene Holpp Scala sent an unsolicited e-mail announcing an upcoming film event: "'Ruthie and Connie: Every Room in the House,' a lesbian relationship story." Scala advised those who wished to respond, "Please do not hit reply, click here," thus directing messages to her workplace e-mail address.
March 8: Daniel clicked to privately reply, "Do not send me any mail about 'Connie and Sally' and 'Adam and Steve.' These are perversions. The absence of God in higher education brings on confusion. That is why in these classes the Creator of the heavens and the earth is never mentioned." No other communication with Scala ensued.
March 10: Scala filed a complaint that the message sounded "threatening."
June 15: A letter of reprimand from University President Arnold Speert was to be placed in Daniel's permanent employment file.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, and Peter C. Harvey, NJ's AG also weighed in.

That's a great post! Of course, Scala was abusing workplace resources! (doh!)
That's actionable in the dreaded private sector.

Thanks for supplying the text version, Liz.

How is this possibly determined to be offfensive in any way??

It may be offensive to an atheist, but it is certainly not threatening.

Mentioning God on the campus of a publicly-funded University is a threat and perhaps a consitutional separation violation?
This woman is a dingbat.

Can someone please show me where the founding fathers wrote about the Right to Never Be Offended??? Right. Should we ban The Declaration of Independence too? How about money? Amazing how you could paint a picture of the Flag being flushed down the toilet in a government building but you can't write the name "God" in an eMail.

The only other place I've heard that was in the navy. Unfortunately, it was a regular saying.

ROFL! At this rate, there is a dingbat population control problem.
Old joke--
Geography teacher asks Tommy what he knows about Los Angeles.
Tommy says, "Well the book says that the people who live in Los Angeles are not very smart."
Confused, Teacher asks "That's not what the book says, Tommy."
Respectfully, Tommy pipes up "Oh yes, it's true. It says right here that the population is very dense."
