Gee, I'm surprised the Presidential News Conference even made the list.

Sigh.

That 2.5 for Fox News is about what Hannity would get in that slot anyway.

It's not as if there are only 3 networks + PBS to choose from anymore.
Viewership is much more spread out over a wider programming selection.
It is much more depressing when you realize that Dubya's news conference just barely squeaked ahead of SpongeBob SquarePants in the ratings.

imagine what cable would be like if we were allowed to pay for just the stations we wanted instead of having to buy entire packages

That's because, no matter how well informed we think we are as a nation, 70% of the American public couldn't care less about who President Bush nominates for the SCOTUS.

Except for places like here and the news outlets, did you hear anyone mention it?  No.  This is not exactly water cooler talk.

I think the cable companies say that would be too expensive because of the technology involved. But with OnDemand I can call up a Barney Miller rerun in sixty seconds. Hmmm.

I would pay more for an ala carte system. They could offer a basic system that was cheap...then offer this for a premium price. There are certain things I just don't want in my house...even if they are programmed out of the tv.

Interesting that these are with one exception, networks which target either men (Spike, TNT, FoxNews, USA) or children (Cartoon, Nick). And one could argue that MTV targets children as well.

Nothing from Oxygen, Lifetime, TBS, or WE on the list.

Even some of the stuff that I don't mind is not cost effective. They could probably cut the cable bill by 10% if they didn't require you to take the ESPN channels.

One can only take so much rape, incest, spousal murder, sexual harrassment and/or childhood disease/death. It's all depressing stuff.

FNC is not basic cable on many services.

There is nothing in the regular lineup that is of interest.

The presidential conference is not regular program.

Too bad the PC nickelodeon program has so many hits. It is just a testament as to what a wasteland TV has become.

I wonder wha the demographic breakdowns are.
