Meanwhile, nary a peep in the mainstream media about how Denzel Washington opened his checkbook and wrote out a check for the amount of money it takes to build a new Fisher House at the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
For those who do not know, a Fisher House is similar to a Ronald McDonald House - it is temporary housing for family members of military people receiving treatment at a Military Hospital. In this particular instance, it is a burns unit in Texas that has seen its' existing Fisher Home filled to capacity with Iraq vets.
Denzel was visiting and asked the Colonel in charge how much such a home would cost to build. When he heard the amount, he produced his checkbook and wrote that amount on a check and handed it to the Colonel.
I guess that's not as cool as going to prr-invasion Iraq and sucking up to Saddam. But, it does my patriotic heart good to see. I'll gladly pay to see any Denzel movie in the future.
That's because it didn't happen that way.
Thank you for posting this information...you should email John P and ask him to write a column about some positive moves being made by Hollywood...I know that Gary Sinese went over to the ME to visit the troops...kids particularly need to know that there are positive ways that people can express themselves and utilize their money while being supportive of our country.
Evil begets evil. Good begets good. Denzel choose the latter, and he will reap what he sows. There's not too many Hollywood performers that I would have any interest in watching, but it's nice to know that at least those that take the higher road are good performers to boot. ;-)
I had no idea Washington had done this. Sincere thanks for pointing it out.
