That would be because it isn't a true statement. He did go to the base, he did ask about the Fisher House, he did make a huge contribution, but he didn't just stroke a check for the full amount right on the spot. He made the contribution sometime later. Not to take anything away from Denzel... hell of a guy and a good American.
