Hillary’s ‘American Dream’: Stuck in the Middle With You
Yahoo News ^ | 7/27/05 | Arianna Huffington

Posted on 07/27/2005 2:59:53 AM PDT by beyond the sea

So there's a fight brewing in the Democratic Party. And it has nothing to do with John Roberts. Instead, it was prompted by Hillary Clinton assuming her role as head of the DLC’s “American Dream Initiative” and immediately calling for a “ceasefire” in the fight over the direction the party should be taking.

Right. Sure. I believe a little translation is in order. Because in almost every instance where a politician or political group calls for a "ceasefire," or "a stop to the mud-slinging," or "unity," what they’re really saying is: "I'm calling on the other side to stop disagreeing with me, so we can move forward in the only right way. Which is my way."

“I have always tried to strike a balance,” Hillary once said. “I think you have to view the world as it is, not as you would wish it to be.”

We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

Cat Fight Alert!!!! and it had to happen, didn't it?

Ariannna v Hillary: And the winner is.................!

Smart money has to go to Hillary, but oh what fun we're going to have over the next 3 years, as Soros money lefties duke it out with the old money regulars for control of the Democratiic Party.

I'm in Pittsburgh, too (pls. consider Freepmailing me the name of your nursery).

As for Ariana's column, two observations:
Except for the principles she is urging Dems to embrace, the same criticism could be voiced of the Republican Party--too often, it seems (almost always) they are running from what they stand for, instead of declaring their stances loudly and standing by them.

The other one is, the Dems won't listen to Ariana, thank goodness.

Steve Gilliard making the killer point that “a drunk monkey could have made a mockery of the GOP’s claims to any sort of stewardship on national security."

Omigod. I always knew Arianna was nuts. But I couldn't resist looking up Steve Gillard's "killer point" myself. Here is what I found (graphic included):

Ooooh, we have to wash. Yes, we need to be extra clean for the DLC after party. Will sucks our balls extra clean. We have to wash them for him. But I thought he liked monkey smells? Not THAT much, wash your balls.

Boy talk about your brilliant "killer" political commentary. I AM impressed. (Chortle.)

"Communists versus socialists "

but don't forget the operative element, "cat". These are two women, unbeholden to each other, supposedly on the same team, but (I bet) seething with resentment for each other. Arianna is unbound by the senate, free from having to appease centrists, the old boys, or even party traditions. She's a loose cannon, the voice of the far left, who Hillary doesn't want to offend. Hillary has to fear her, and loathe her too, because Arianna is the pretty one.

It makes me wonder if Arianna's alleged "conservatism" during the Clinton years was simply a resentment of Hillary.

Strike is an appropriate term with this former First Lady.

Best to glue down the lamps and ashtrays.

(Just so we don't under-estimate Arianna, here's her bio.)

"Arianna Huffington is a nationally syndicated columnist and author of ten books. Originally from Greece, she moved to England when she was 16 and graduated from Cambridge University with an M.A. in Economics. At 21, she became president of the famed debating society, the Cambridge Union.

In 2003, Ms. Huffington ran for governor as an Independent in California's recall election. Her populist grassroots campaign was widely praised for putting the media spotlight on the corrupting influence of special interest money on American politics. [funny]

Her first book, The Female Woman, published in 1974 by Random House and translated into eleven languages, was about the changing roles of women. In 1978, she published After Reason, a book on political leadership and the intersection of politics and culture. Her biography, Maria Callas: The Woman Behind the Legend, published in 1981, quickly became an international bestseller. Her fourth book, The Gods of Greece, celebrated the power of myths as guides to forgotten dimensions of life and ourselves, and has been republished by Atlantic Monthly Press with paintings by Francoise Gilot.

Ms. Huffington’s biography of Pablo Picasso, Picasso: Creator and Destroyer, published in 1988 and translated into sixteen languages, was a major international bestseller. Reissued by Avon Books to coincide with the release of a movie based on the book, the film was produced by Merchant-Ivory for Warner Bros. and starred Anthony Hopkins as Picasso. In 1994, she published The Fourth Instinct on the longing for meaning in a secular world.

Her seventh book, Greetings From the Lincoln Bedroom, a book of political satire, was published in 1998 by Crown. How To Overthrow The Government, on the corruption of our political system and the need for reform, was published in 2000 by Regan Books (Harper Collins).

The New York Times bestseller, Pigs at the Trough: How Corporate Greed and Political Corruption are Undermining America, was published in 2003. Her latest book, Fanatics and Fools: The Game Plan for Winning Back America (April 2004), offers both a scathing portrait of our contemporary political landscape and a bold, inspiring, yet practical approach to restoring America to the promise envisioned by our greatest leaders.

During Campaign '96, Ms. Huffington teamed up with Al Franken to provide political coverage for Comedy Central during the Republican and Democratic conventions, as well as on election night. She and Franken also appeared in a point-counterpoint segment, "Strange Bedfellows," for Politically Incorrect.

She has made guest appearances on numerous other shows, including Larry King Live, Oprah, Nightline, Inside Politics, Charlie Rose, Crossfire, Hardball, Good Morning America, The Today Show, The McLaughlin Group and The O'Reilly Factor.

She serves on several boards that promote community solutions to social problems, including A Place Called Home that works with at-risk children in South Central Los Angeles. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Archer School for Girls, the advisory board of the Council on American Politics at George Washington University, and the board of the Reform Institute that works on campaign and election reform issues.

Arianna Huffington lives in Los Angeles with her two daughters.(One has to assume her "talents" extend to the bedroom.)

Arianna Huffington lives in Los Angeles with her two daughters.

And SUVs. And energy guzzling swimming pools. And mansion.

Oh, and did you know that she made her money off of energy?

But of course, she's "for" conservation. Yeah, you conserve it so she can spend it.

Hillary is anti gun rights look at her votes in the senate.

Hillary voted against the laci peterson bill, partial birth abortion, she is against parental notification.

Hillary voted against border agents last week.

Hillary last year had an ACU rating of 0. Her voting record is as liberal as Ted Kennedy's.

The media is incompetent Ben Nelson is in the middle with an ACU rating in the 50's. Hillary is an extreme liberal her voting record screams that out. I don't care how much two faced Hillary lies and triangulates with her words she will never be able to run and hide from her voting record just like Kerry.
