WASHINGTON, July 26 (UPI) -- The Bush administration has begun downplaying the "war on terror" in favor of "a global struggle against violent extremism," the New York Times reports.
Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the National Press Club that if something is a war "then you think of people in uniform as being the solution."
Myers said that while the military may be in the forefront now the long-term solution is more diplomatic, economic and political.

So the WOT is now the GSAVE? If they kill 3,000 Americans again, can we go back to the WOT where men in uniform are the solution?

He's right, but the timing is wrong.
We aren't going to kill approximately 1.2 BILLION people. That would be the estimated number of Muslims out there.
The ideals of Freedom and Democracy is what will be needed to defeat fundamentalism.
the problem with bringing this out NOW, is that the FIGHT is currently NOT over yet.

it just goes to show you how bad the political apparatus in the white house has been on this - from 70+% approval ratings after the capture of Saddam - to this, now they fear the use of the "war on terror" slogan. what is going on here?
this kind of backpedalling is going to get Hillary into the white house, I tell you all, this white house political machine stinks.

Myers said that while the military may be in the forefront now Take this with a grain of salt. He is talking about when the fighting is actually over. Notice what he says and not what the reporter says.

This has to be the most presumptive article ever written. Nowhere does it quote anybody in the White House as "Dropping" the slogan "War on Terror", they point to "Enemies of Freedom" and Gen . Myers remarks as if that is conclusive.
The Author of this joke of an article needs to adjust his tinfoil hat
